Hello. I am joining for social interaction and maybe be distracted from how depressed I am. I'm looking into therapy for a recent trauma. I was diagnosed autistic when I was 8. Don't meet a lot of others like that, seems like everyone was diagnosed at 20 or above. I wonder if anyone relates to not having the problem of not knowing why and instead getting "therapeutic" abuse from the school system. Fighting the entire time I was in grade school to get an education. Because of my diagnosis.

Welcome!

On this site our demographics are heavier on adult diagnosed individuals, but the vast majority of folks on the spectrum these days are diagnosed much younger - where I am, over 90% were diagnosed before 12. A large part of this is due to better diagnostic tools, more awareness, and more funding (hey, people respond to incentives).

While I got my diagnosis much later, I can say that high school was, overall, not a very pleasant experience for me and I'd much rather forget it. So you're not alone.

Hi and welcome. Sorry to hear that school was tough, I was born many years before diagnosis of Aspergers was a possibility, but school was certainly challenging at all stages, in various ways. I hope things are improving for you as an adult, and that you have some hopes and dreams to build on, or soon will. Good to see you here.

Hi and Welcome @Amphilyke

I am intrigued by your handle - what does it mean - if anything?
It's from a book. Apollonius of Rhodes uses it in his version of the Argonautica, but it goes back to Homer, it's a word that was used only once (called hapax legnomenon) and that makes its meaning hard for modern scholars to figure, but Apollonius links it to the dawn, apparently thinking of Lycian Apollo. My copy of the book we used is still in my ex's house.
