Greetings, I'm a senior male Aspy. I always wondered why I was different than most people. My oldest daughter (whom is clinically diagnosed as an Aspy) came to me 2 years ago stating a theory she & her therapist had. After many hours working on her issues the therapist open the possibility that I was very much on the spectrum. She wanted to talk to me, but in her opinion I was more than likely one too. I researched & came to the same conclusion. I answered an online survey of 20 questions & responded 'yes' to 17 of the questions. Then discussing it with my PCP (whom had studied it) that in all likelihood, he agreed.

I now have an answer to the above. I refused to believe it at first then more & more I started to embrace the possibility. I worked in the tech field since I was 18. Retired as a UNIX/Linux admin after 35 at the same company. I could always pass tests easily, was in the USAFSS (top 1%). Was quick with math problems, but couldn't figure out the plots of movies very well. I talked constantly about things I was interested in (usual interest time was about 5 years). Dismissed others when they wanted to talk. Talked about myself mostly, bored all those around me. Never made friends, hated crowds, taking chances or finding excitement in most things.

Anyway thanks for this site I may have found a way to find like members who understand me.

Welcome. A lot of things you wrote have been said by others - you're not the only one. I think you'll fit right in here.

I hope you find this forum as welcoming and helpful as I have.

Welcome to Autism Forums! I am also a senior Aspie. I was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome 11 years ago at age 62.

Welcome to the Forums! I hope you make new friends and enjoy your stay in the process! :)

There's plenty of other Middle aged/Senior members here, so you're not alone in going through your Golden Years while being on the Spectrum :)

Hi Shiblom

welcome to af.webp

Hi and welcome! I have been a member for about a month, I think, and find it a very welcoming place with lots of supportive people and it's very validating.

Hi Shiblom!
My dad is a senior Aspie too and I love him very much. He is a bit hard to be around sometimes and lives in his own bubble a lot, but then I am an Aspie too and he probably thinks I can be challenging to spend much time with too!
I hope you like it here and feel welcome.:-)
