So I just recently found out I have AS, and have been researching it a lot lately. My wife researched it too, and thinks I could virtually be the AS poster child. Self diagnosed for now, but I've found a specialist and will be getting an official diagnosis soon.
I grew up thinking everyone around me was stupid, and dealt with abusive parents as well. They never encouraged my gifts, and have treated me like I am 5 years old since I was that age. My wife and one friend from college are the only two people who have ever taken me seriously. I want to write a book, play an instrument, and invent things. I am only just now breaking through the social conditioning to be able to start these dreams.
It's like learning I am AS broke the brainwashing from my parents, bullies, and society in general. In some ways, I have entirely lost the ability to fake NT behaviors. Some I didn't realize I was even doing, and those are gone. I've woken up from a 35 year sleep it seems.
So here I am, and I hope to participate in these forums as time allows.
