Hi! I'm Jess, and I'm from the land down under :) I love music, particularly playing the flute; animals, maths and reading, in particular fantasy/sci-fi or romance. I am trying to figure out what the hell I should do at university, and I'm considering either environmental science, pharmacy or secondary maths/music teaching, so if anyone wants to give me advice I'd happily take it! I was diagnosed with Aspergers in 2011!

Hi! I'm Dana.
I love to ride horses. My very favourite horse is named Phoenix. She's very sweet. I'm thirteen, Idk how old you are, but if you are my age you are thinking very far ahead. I'm also new. Not only to here, but to my town. So I'm new a lot of places

Welcome to the forums Jess!

As an animal enthusiast myself, I have to say that Australia seems like a great place to live to see a lot of fascinating ones. I do not know to what extent colleges in AU are different than the ones in America, but if possible my recommendation would be to try classes in all the subjects that interest you and not be afraid to change majors if you find it's not for you. I stuck way too long with a major that I hated just because I thought it was more useful, and it ruined the experience of my first years. For the teaching of math/music, maybe you can volunteer to tutor high school kids, that can be a great way to see if you enjoy teaching.

Hi, I like the flute too (but I don't play it). I particularly like the work of Attilar Kollar, both in Solaris and his solo albums. I like Jethro Tull too (Ian Anderson).

Welcome, Jess! :) I played oboe from third grade through college. Band was fun! Unfortunately, I haven't picked it up since graduating, as I've become very busy...I've had 3 jobs for most of the time I've been finished with school (12 years) and just about have enough time to sleep :p

I have a Bachelor's in Social Work. I originally went for Bio Education, however learned it wasn't my niche. I always say that college is as much an experience of learning what ISN'T for you as well as what is. The change was the best decision I could have made. What you could do is start with elective courses in your areas of interest, that would count towards an eventual degree. Hope this helps!

That’s actually a good idea to tutor high school kids, I will look into that

My sister rides a horse named Gizmo, and he is lovely. I’m eighteen, so only a few years older than you but I am graduating high school in September so I need to start thinking

Thank you for the advice. I am going to try out a few options, and see what one I like most, and hopefully finish with a degree that will count towards getting a career I would really love!

Hi Jess and welcome.

Temple Grandin has a lot to say on what career moves and education someone with ASD should follow.
