Movie sequels that were as good as or better than the original films...

On a previous thread I did, Questella suggested this:
Now we need a thread for movies with sequels that did the original justice. I vote for Back to the Future. :3

Well, wish granted. :D

Are there any movie sequels you've seen that you felt were as good as the original or better?

oh hell yeah, in my view last house on the left [2009 remake] is sooooo much better than the original, i think it has more power in it,its more brutal. i couldnt care less that people have gave it quite a low score [just above average] on IMDB,i say if you havent seen it,see it for yourself.

Brace yourself: I liked Star Wars episodes 1, 2, and 3 more than the originals. *ducks all the nerdrocks and nerdbricks*

Edit: but screw the new one, whatever it's called. What was that crap?

I liked the Star Wars prequels too in fact Revenge of the Sith is my favourite Star Wars movie and my husband actually really likes The Phantom menace so you are not alone.

I thought all three Lord of the rings were good and I enjoyed the sequels to the Sam Raimi Spider-Man though I didn't like the rebooted Amazing Spider-Man series which made me lose interest in any future Spider-Man movies but I also liked the Star Wars prequels and I know there are those who don't like them but I really enjoyed them.

I thought all the Lord of the Rings films, including all 5 Hobbit movies, were some of THE most overrated piles of cack ever created to be honest, followed by the second most overrated trilogy ever, the Matrix films.

"Star Trek: Wrath of Khan" was astronomically better than "Star Trek: The Motion Picture".

Most of the original Star Trek movies were great, just a shame Star Trek 4, the one with the Whales, was well, a bit pants IMO.

Actually most people on this side of the pond tend to rate TOS/TNG Star Trek movies in terms of "odd and even". With the even films being much better than the odd ones. I tend to agree with this assessment as well.

Besides, I remember taking my girlfriend to Star Trek IV. She loved it. Sure put her in a good mood that night. We had sex for the rest of the evening, so it couldn't have been that bad! :p But yeah, it was a bit too light-hearted for my taste...bordering almost on comedy at times.

Though I also recall the real "stinker" of them all. The fifth film, "Final Frontier" which was directed by William Shatner. It was terrible. I remember finding a DVD of it last year and bought it at bargain basement prices just to complete my collection. Once I watched it again I remembered why I never bothered buying it before.

Aliens was as good, if not better, than Alien. I feel that's because, unlike 90% of sequels these days, they didn't re-hash Alien's plot for Aliens. Alien was a space-horror while Aliens was war-space marines. Its a shame the pattern didn't hold for the Alien franchise because Alien3 and Alien: R were in essence a re-hash of Alien, Alien: R especially.

I think Empire Strikes Back was a better movie than A New Hope. ESB expanded apon what ANE established, fleshing out the lore and the bad guys actually win! That's so rare now (and even more back then) that I can't help but give extra points for that.
