Hi people
Recently psychiatrist suggested hi function ASD but at 52 not sure if I can see the point in the label. I can identify with a lot of the traits but I struggle with 2 things. I have always worked in psychological medicine roles currently doing a lot of addiction treatment for patients and secondly so so many of my family are just like me! What do others think?

Hi Popdoc, welcome to the site. Read a bit and familiarize yourself with some of the indicators for HFA. It's possible that entire families have many of the traits, or even some of them, as there is a genetic connection. Growing up with a family may mean that those particular eccentricities might not be noticed, simply considered usual.

In fact I know realise why we all feel sorry for my brother, paradoxically he has the most conventional personality but we despair of his emotionality and need to have friends and to " network "

What I don't get is why my mother with a few traits choose my father with stronger traits and then made an incredibly productive partnership Perhaps opposites don't attract
