The tardigrade, commonly known as the Water Bear,
can withstand temperatures just above absolute zero
to well above the boiling point of water, perfect vacuum
to over 6 times the pressure found at the deepest
points in the ocean, radiation hundreds of times that
lethal to humans, and they can go without food or water
for 10 years. All this in an organism barely a third of a
millimeter in size. If any species were to survive
the end of the world, this would be at the top of the list.
