Kempy's numerous obsessions

Kempy

Well-Known Member
I have a large range of obsessions, some of which I have had for several years, and others which change weekly. I often have obsessions which come up for a few weeks and then go away. These obsessions sometimes come back at a later date.
My main obsession is film-making. I aspire to be a film director which I feel suits me as I am able to use it as a form of expression, something I otherwise struggle with. I have been into film-making since I was about 6 when my friend wanted to make a TV show. Since then I have made a large range of video's. I feel this is my main talent and I will continue to try to pursue it as a career. I am currently making a film about Aspergers. I will write about this in another thread.
(note that I am 18 and NOT a pro, but I hope I will be one day.)

Another obsession of mine is electronics. I have been interested in electronics for as long as I can remember. My Dad taught me how to solder and I used to buy electronic kits with my pocket money. Although I still have a very strong interest in electronics, I don't focus on it as much because I am trying to pursue a career in a different field.

My obsession with electronics also spawned an obsession with computers. I have built many computers and currently use Linux for everything. I also run a webserver from home despite the absence of anything useful to host on it. I am VERY fluent in HTML and always write my sites in a text program.

I also have a very keen interest in aviation. I have spent 5 years in the Air Cadets and have just gained a BTEC in Aviation Studies.

Some of my shorter term obsessions have included:
ELO (The Electric Light Orchestra)
Heathrow Airport (It's history, layout .etc)
Southend Airport (Also history, layout .etc. It is my local airport which I often visit)
Canvey Island and other random local history.
Linux
Snoopy (starting from when I was a baby. I have a large collection of Snoopy soft toys)
Lego
Australia (was going to move there in 2004 after two wonderful holidays. Things didn't quite go to plan)
Rats (I now have two)

I should also note that one of my first obsessions, and the first thing I learned a lot about was clocks. I was able to tell the time from a very young age. I also used to sit in the bottom of the cupboard and just play with clocks for hours on end.

Does anyone share any of these obsessions? Feel free to natter on like I have done for the last 10 minutes!

Very interesting and wide range of obsessions you got there, Kempy.

I would share the obsessions in electronics and computers mainly. I also like web development but can't be arsed with the coding side of it.

Blimey, I didn't know your also into Linux, I also use it, I just happened to download Ubuntu 10.04 2 days ago and I'm quite pleased with it myself actually, but truthfully, there really wasn't that much difference in it or the performance.

You say your not a pro? with that wide amount of obsessions, it sounds like a pro alright. ;)

I suppose. I just didn't want people who didn't know my age to think that I am already an established director or something.

You are indeed a pro --- I wished more people like you (though not me) can explore Linux despite its difficulty of use.

I find Linux perfect for me with my Aspergers because it lets me do whatever I want with it. I have a video camera covered in buttons and knobs and switches which allows for me to have complete manual control over everything that is happening. Linux is the same. I can set certain things to work automatically, but if I decide I want a purple pulsating taskbar, I can get a purple pulsating taskbar because theres nothing to stop me.
It's also free so if I want to throw together a computer just to do a simple task, like so I can watch TV on it, I can build a pc and install Linux for free without having to pay for any licences or anything. It's good when you want to experiment with computers.

No. I have two rats that both look a bit like this one.

This is not my rat, but it looks similar.
