Just Another Human Trying to Figure It Out

the_aspie

Aspie, 30s, still figuring it out.
Hey everyone!

I’m the_aspie, and I’m excited to be here! I’m 35, autistic, and basically just trying to navigate life without losing my mind 😅.

I love gaming, and sometimes I get overwhelmed by social situations. Looking forward to chatting, sharing experiences, and maybe finding some fellow weirdos who get it.

Welcome to the forum. I'm also a gamer. What are you into? I'm big on any game where I can sit back and build and chill. Lost a lot of time in Fallout 76, and Arc Survival, and Lost Souls. I'm big on openworld games too like Assassins Creed, and the entirety of the FarCry series. But don't let those titles fool you, my gaming days go back to the 80's. I remember Atari, I was there Gandalf, jk.

Haha, “I was there, Gandalf” got me 😄 That’s an awesome gaming résumé. I’m definitely into open-world games too—there’s just something about exploring at your own pace that never gets old. I also like chill build-and-survive styles, so I totally get the Fallout and Ark time sink.

I didn’t grow up in the Atari era myself, but I love hearing stories from people who did—it’s wild how far games have come since then. Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry are classics for a reason.

What’s one game you always end up going back to no matter how many new ones come out?

The first game was Pong, and the second one was Tanks. I played Tanks a couple of dozen times with pocket change in a waiting room, and decided that fancier versions would not do anything to help me understand real life.

I got my first computer when I was about 7 or 8 years old (1984 or 1985), but gaming came only later, I first focused on programming.

I have to admit that while Jet Set Willy, Everyone's a Wally, Shadow of the Beast (Amiga-version), Elite (Spectrum-version), Millennium 2.2 etc. have left fond memories, I can't imagine playing them any more.

So my only game that I still return to is Mass Effect -trilogy. Before I would have also said Diablo 2 and Path of Exile, but I finally got fed up with them some time ago.

That's a really tough question. The games I go back to really sorta depended upon what systems I had available at the time. Like when I was just on consoles I'd usually go back through whatever had been my favorite game and try it again on a harder level. Not going to lie, I don't have the quickest hand eye anymore and I find a lot of modern games very difficult so I usually play things on Easy or Story Mode.

Far Cry 5/6 along with the Dying Light Franchise I've played through multiple times. And guaranteed will play through again. Another, which is the only game I've played across multiple systems is No Man's Sky. Just an open universe sandbox if you aren't familiar. Randomly generated universe with more planets and galaxies than our own. Here is what is currently installed on my PC.

I can't really do PVP, like most modern shooters. Duke Nukem 3D was the last one I was any good at, in 1997. I'm usually last on those leaderboards. Mostly I don't bother with them, a few like Arc Raiders, which is an open world extraction PVE/PVP is actually a lot of fun. Now I did play World Of Warcraft for a time and it was a lot of fun but ultimately the charm of it wore off. Particularly needing to be in a guild in order to attempt any of the end game. Just always seemed that I'd find guilds with people that were amazing, but didn't play at the same times as me, or they ran at the same times but they were terrible people.

Welcome, @the_aspie. I hope you have a good experience here. This has been a very useful place in my own quest to figure things out.

Spent a lot of time on pong. Then Asteroids came out and I was addicted. The frogs in the road too.
