It kind of irks me that when i buy a device, the software is still owned and controlled by the corporation that designed it. I don't get to just lazily have a device and install or uninstall software as I please.

I actually went a good decade without owning a computer or cell phone and in 2019 when i finally joined the modern world, I was shocked to see how software companies had started this practice.

Excellent point. That the whole concept of proprietary technology has gotten completely out of hand. You have to wonder if everything purchased will someday be marketed based solely on a rental basis. :rolleyes:

A concept sadly thought of in its infancy many years ago by Oracle developer/billionaire Larry Ellison. Who envisioned all software running from HIS servers. Where users pay only for the right to access it, without any semblance of actually owning it. Clearly it's catching on.

Small wonder I still use a 20+ year old version of Photoshop. Or Microsoft Office 2000. I even have reinstalled my legacy Windows XP computer next to this computer I use with Windows 10 and Linux Mint 20.3. ;)

Next it may be food products. Imagine some CEO taking you to court over something already digested in your intestines. OK, you can have it back! Please wait and it will all come out in the end. :p

A little pair of safety scissors that you didn't know that you still owned. Suddenly you are filled with nostalgia for when your child was small.
