Unless the definition has changed, it means playing more than one character/account at the same time. Most often done in MMOs.

Depends on the game. I used to play a ton of MMOs, and generally they either let me solo correctly, or I wouldnt bother with them. The oldest ones tended not to but eventually the devs behind most of them realized that solo players were paying just as much as normal players, and would not pay if they couldnt do that, so... yeah.

Of course, it might be different now, I dunno. I lost interest after WoW corrupted the genre. So it's been awhile.

Generally, yeah, that sort of idea. Though the exact details vary from one game to the next.
