Hello everybody. I was diagnosis with aspergers last Nov. and i have had conflicting emotions ever since. I stopped seeing the doc and stopped thinking about it as much as i can but i cant any longer.

How many professionals did ya'll visit till you accepted the diagnosis? How many visits did it take for them to diagnose you? Thanks for reading this.

Welcome to AC to the left!
as for me it took only 2 persons who are specialized in autism.
The diagnosis was official after seven visits each with at least two weeks between.
I did accept the diagnosis in less than a week, because I knew something was wrong, now I know what. ;)

Welcome :)

I'm still only self-diagnosed right now, but I knew I was on to something fairly fast. It just seemed to fit a little to perfectly to be wrong.

I saw one professional maybe one or two times. But he has a good understanding of ASD, especially since he has an autistic son. So . . . results may vary.

I saw a professional twice in March for my diagnosis, but she specialises in ASD assessment, especially in women/girls, so knew what she was doing. I've accepted it, but not sure I'm totally comfortable with it yet, just in terms of reconciling my past with my present.

It really is a difficult thing to accept, I was 29 and my psychologist suggested it. I had never herd of aspergers before & it took a while for me. What I found worked for me was reading about it and particularly other peoples experiences, I keep thinking yep that me or well that explains my childhood.

Good luck and welcome it is a really supportive place here.

I got diagnosed after 10-15 minutes in an office, though, lets just say it wasn't something I was surprised with. I guess it must be pretty obvious.
Welcome to the forums though, I hope you can find out what you need to. ;)

I have seen as many "Professionals" as times I have been misdiagnosed. My wife and I were at an initial counseling session last year when it was suggested that I may have it. I had never heard of it before, and had little faith at this point. I however, started researching it, and my world spilled open. I cried and cried as I read others accounts of my secret most feeling and thoughts, and how my life of 47 years finally all made sense. It is without a doubt that I have it. I am self diagnosed and have no need for a confirmation. My friends on here understand me better than any professional ever even came close to doing, and I have finally found a home. I am accepted, and no longer alone.
Thank You All.
