Too busy eating myself to death

Probably food, not your own body parts.

Sometimes people think that they might be
able to survive in harsh conditions by eating
their own toes or whatever, but it provides no
real benefit.

Kick Me: A Life Game

From Games People Play by Dr. Eric Berne

The following is a brief description of the Life Game Kick Me from Games People Play by Dr. Eric Berne.

Thesis: This is played by men whose social manner is equivalent to wearing a sign that reads “Please Don’t Kick Me.” The temptation is almost irresistible, and when the natural result follows, White cries “piteously, “But the sign says ‘don’t kick me.’” Then he adds incredulously, “Why does this always happen to me?” (WAHM.). Clinically, the WAHM may be introjected and disguised in the “Psychiatry” cliché: “Whenever I’m under stress, I get all shook up.” One game element in WAHM comes from inverse pride: “My misfortunes are better than yours.” This factor is often found in paranoids.

If the people in this environment are restrained from striking at him by kindheartedness, “I’m Only Trying to Help You,” at social convention or organizational rules, his behavior becomes more and more provocative until he transgresses the limits and forces them to oblige. These are men who are cast out, the jilted and the job losers.

Great book. There's a few people around here playing that game actually, and playing it like total pros. But we don't have to participate. ;)

Great another book I need to add to my TBR stack...Come on!

You'll love it! :)

Are you familiar with the Japanese term "tsundoku"? My husband introduced that word to me a few years ago. Great word. How tall is/are your tsundoku/s? ;)

We are turning that excellent book into an audio book of sorts just now by reading it to each other while on drives to hiking destinations. Because all good books need to be re-read sometimes! :)

Somebody could do an entire powerpoint presentation with theme music on the subject and I would probably still challenge the fact that opinion is opinion, not fact. Of the two, opinions are much more apt to evolve. Just like people...which is why I look at context before forming an opinion.

Behaviour patterns can tell one a fair bit and there is a real difference in believing one's self is a jerk and actually being a jerk. As a whole, people tend to be their own worst critics, I number among those self critics myself, so I'm not totally blowing smoke.

You didn't have to reply to this thread in the first place, lady.

You didn't have to reply to this thread in the first place, lady.

But she is free to, and it made the discussion more interesting. This is a community and it's normal for people to reply to topics, and to talk to people other than the OP as well.

She has lots of interesting and relevant things to contribute, including to your threads, if she chooses to participate. Sounds like you would prefer she didn't though.

Just because she disagrees with you about certain things, or even lots of things, doesn't mean she (or @tree) was being hostile to you. Respectfully disagreeing is an important thing to be able to do, and if we didn't do it, we wouldn't be having thought-provoking discussions on this forum, we'd just be a trite echo chamber and a little bubble of manufactured agreement like "Pleasantville" or lots of social media sub-silos.
