I think my dad has undiagnosed aspergers

aspergers can be improved! I have a slight case, but that never stopped me. I am in a great college, #1 in my state to be exact. I am rushing a serority in the spring!. I go to football games with my friend, I have fun nights out in college. All my life I have learned to go against aspergers symptoms. I learned to improve my self, we have nothing to lose! Although i have symptoms, I only know and control them. I do get extremely anxious but thats mostly because of school work or being in a social group from time to time. I am not ashamed of myself! I hope to get a business degree or do the pre med route and I have no doubts in my self. I know hard work pays off for me.. If you get diagnosed with asbergers, Dont be ashamed! Just think on how you can improve your symptoms and now you can be more aware since you know ! I used to be ashamed and lonely. But, I realized my life doesnt have to be like this! Yes, It takes effort for me to be social, but I dont mind the effort because I get affective results.

Welcome to A.C.

I'm glad that you are coping well with Aspergers, but I find your mention of your dad in the title to be somewhat confusing...

aspergers can be improved!

No, it cannot. It is wonderful just the way it is :)

Seriously, I can understand why you think that way, but constant anxiety will take its toll eventually. You seem to be like everyone else, but you are not using the same brain processes they are, and this creates both anxiety and exhaustion.

I know: I was an undiagnosed Aspie for decades, and it nearly killed me. This is not a disease to be overcome like in some sappy TV movie. This is a different mode of being which has its own strengths and weaknesses, just like NeuroTypicals have. The only problem is that there are far more NeuroTypicals, and many of them are thoughtless and prejudiced.

But that is not the fault of Asperger's. Asperger's is not a fault.

Great that you are having fun! I know my personal growth really rocketed after I joined the military - I felt accepted for who I was, made some very good friends, and in that supportive environment, really developed my social skills and gained self-confidence.

Asperger's does not get better or worse, YOU are getting better, congrats!

I'm sure my father had Asperger's, but I don't think he would have accepted a diagnosis. I never told him about mine (I got diagnosed in my late thirties).

Congrats at doing so well!
