I had my assessment today!

So today I had a 2 hour long interview and a quick review of the RAADS test and my questionnaire. She touched on a lot of childhood behavior, friendships, adjustment to changes, sensory issues, and the difficulty parenting 2 special needs children. It was pretty exhausting. She diagnosed me with Asperger's. I take an intelligence test and an executive functioning test next week. I'm relieved. I've suspected for awhile. It's nice to have confirmation though.

I'm surprised they diagnosed you with Aspergers with the manual being changed and the term Aspergers being removed. Now it's a classified as a spectrum. When I was diagnosed, she said I have High Functioning Autism, which is the same as saying I have Aspergers.

She said ASD. She said it was known as Asperger's a few years ago. It sounded like she didn't necessarily agree with everything being lumped into just "ASD." I don't know though. We didn't get into that. She said the distinction was that I started talking at the expected time and that's what would've made my diagnosis as "Asperger's."

I'm pleased you've had a result LittleLemon!

That's great, I'm glad it went well and wasn't too stressful for you. I have mine in just over two weeks.

My local mental health trust also assesses Asperger's and ASC. They use the ICD-10 for the autism diagnoses.

I got an ASC dx also known as Asperger's due to the fact that I had no delayed language development.

congratulations on getting a confirmation on what you knew already, its a step in the right direction.

Glad you had a relatively easy assessment! I'm still on the fence about whether to seek one out (and can't do it right now because of money), but I always like to hear other adult diagnosis stories :)

Good on you for being assessed. If your scenario was anything like mine it was a pain getting there with a long waiting list but rewarding to have something official at the end, if only for the peace of mind.

Update:

Hi all. Just wanted to give an update on the extra testing I went through yesterday.

It took the entire 2 hours and we still didn't quite finish.

The first thing was an intelligence test. There were these blocks and I had to make the blocks match a picture. The first couple were easy, but then it quickly became difficult. The last one I just gave up. I had to repeat a series of numbers forwards, backwards, and in numerical order (like she gave me 572134 and I had to place them in order. I couldn't after it exceeded 4 digits). Then she gave me 2 words and I had to determine what they had in common. I struggled with this one. The only two I remember are "statue and poem" and "anchor and fence." I had no idea. Another verbal test was defining simple words like compassion and evolve. Most of the words were so simple that I couldn't really define them. Another test was on verbal math. If I had a pen and paper, I could do it. I had a hard time following her when they got more complex. There were a few other ones involving shapes and patterns. Some were easy, some I couldn't wait until it was over.

Next I had to fill out an executive functioning test and she'll later compare it with my husband's.

Then we did a test on facial expression and tone of voice. I *think* I did ok on that, but we ran out of time on voice, so we'll finish it next time.

The point of these tests was to identify my strengths and weaknesses and to really see where I am on the spectrum. With all this information, I can use their services to help find appropriate employment as I have never been able to hold down a job. I go back Dec. 19th.

It was pretty exhausting and all I wanted to do was take a nap, but it was a looooong day. We had my daughter's IEP meeting and then her OT appointment immediately after. Now my baby is sick. I need a break.

Thanks for reading if you got this far!
