How Us ASPIE think

Organic versus metal coatings ..? causes me to think, is your son leaning towards surfaces that need conductivity.. btw ?
Am not very aware of the more precise differences in the coating , but can easily imagine the coatings of each would each have respectively different carriers if used in coating materials ?

Yes Zinc phosphate is used alone guns with oil. Better with coating like paint The trick is Zinc Phosphate is crystals change in ph cause crystals to form on surface Zn dissolved in phosphoric acid acid etches surface change in PH crystals form if you clean surface with caustic like detergent thin layer causes crystals to form on top of thin layer of soap leading to adhesion issues paint and crystals all peel off. Once you see it cannot unsee it

Either way I bought garden tractor years ago built loader for it painted loader Zinc phosphated prior to painting cleaned loader well rinsed well, sprayed zinc phosphate on with Wagner plastic spray gun, then covered with damp blanket for few hours to let crystals form. Crystals will form fast on Zinc. Real trick is get soap off even hint of caustic will cause adhesion issues. Heat lamp could cure some paints No lab to figure out PMT.or temperature tapes A Lot of galvanized is precoated so you cannot paint must remove this prior to painting. At plant If we got a raw galvanized coil we would flash coat on electro galvanizing line to remove this protective coating prior to treating and painting.

Sons business is coatings for medical instruments, nuclear parts injection molding machine parts. My expertise, automobiles, appliances and coil coating slit stamped formed after painting. Two types of painting pre paint and post paint. I'M familiar with both expertise in both rare.

Forgot to add their is two types of plating electroplating and electroless plating, Son does electroless plating.

kinda fascinating, in actuality , had no idea that there was anything but electro plating.
For galvanic surface coating . Very cool that your son made it into that industry ...Am curious, pardon naivete here, but does his work involve sputtering as a process as well?
Not to discount organic, but ,must say due to lack of knowledge on that topic again , Not sure what to ask,? unless it is a potentially ( a simpler process) based on my own speculation? It was purely accidental that I learned about the zinc phosphate used in firearms . You really caught my curiousity when you offered info about Your Lawn tractor
Due to a disappointing attempt to create a version of a backhoe attachment to a Craftsman , newer Lawn tractor aswell , After Changing rear rims and tires to 2 inch taller
Agricultural type. Back hoe , mid project had to be modded to merely a lift for a wide
blade . To act as a snow scaper . and moving large piles of leaves. Had a kit for a front mount blade from previous Lawn tractor . Which was self defeating , worked okay for snow. but needed more badly to move and mulch huge piles of a suburban heavily, very tall treed property . Build up of leaves in front was too much and went around back of the blade insulating its air cooled motor from cooling. And , wasnt fast enough to stop the
dry leaves from smoking up under its hood. cancelling the bearing life of the motor.
Resultingly turning it into a parts tractor. Back to 2nd craftman Lawn tractor ,the Use of the electric powered linear activator to operate lift arm on the backhoe . Not sure the activator was up to the task of downward pressure to actually dig anything. It was it previous front mounted blade that was attached to bottom of the backhoe arm, that moved leaves very nicely. as it drove through the leaves .And snow as well. It was that
mechanical arm attachment that I previously described as recieving the treatment that
was done. If you do not mind and have the patience . If you might share basic highlights of the organic process of plating ? or not , ? as you please.

Before the stroke I was going to make a towed backhoe for my tractor even bought welder, Dad helped me make front end loader worked well hydraulic. Had issues backing up my trailer between houses after stroke so gave tractor to brother in-law Wife cut deal with my close friend who lives in same town where we have large lot one of his neighbours had passed, had just bought large garden tractor He is tractor mechanic daughter of neighbour asked him if he would purchase tractor, So wife cut deal with him, cut our grass everybody happy. To be truthful I knew nothing about electroless plating before my son got the position. Seems we have similar interests . Organic process of plating is called E-coat I got exposed on my first position Kaiser Aluminum only coil line in world using this for aluminum siding. Now used mainly for automotive prior to prime coat. pretty simple process liquid bath part pulled through charged bath. I did anodic at Kaiser , Ford used Cathodic right after my zinc phosphate process So I would help the other rep. when he had an issue.

Yes I bought tractor style tires also for my tractor, maintenace got too high, towing too costly deal wife made perfect.

Nice neighbour.. very sorry you had to let the tractor go. sounded lovely , not having hardly any knowledge of hydraulic use of power . Unless you count hydraulic brake systems . But as I got older the principals got more clear . Although my little garden tractor probably was not the most ideal to try to tap off of its Hydrostatic transmission, but I neglected to research it, instead using more familiar linear activator concepts. Sometime in my midlife got exposed to principals of welding . And eventually . Purchased a Lincoln ( buzz box) . Much later on got experienced in MIG welding. Through a night adult welding class, even buying one of my own. ( Little Use) as was more comfy with a Miller Arc box. These things amongst others were exchanged for work around the property. As time went by ,As at that time finances were thin.
Seem the E coatings seems possibly the bath was electricfied? pardon if that is presumptious .???
Very Sorry to hear of the Health issue .Am hoping that the recovery was as complete as possible . With little or no mental capacity diminishment . ( judging by your writing and recollections) . Suffered a long and serious bout with heretofore undiagnosed Lyme infection . As well as its treatment was equally difficult . Necessitating the need for help.
Collected assets/ equipment allowed me to barter for that help .
Sorry to hear about the backhoe project not making it to fruition . Speculating we both have had our own experiences with set backs at our own respective ages .🫣

My dad was a welder taught me a bit had to add hydraulic pump to tractor not difficult. Tractor had to be trailered to prpoperty, trailer parked between houses to store meaning backing up drive way has slight dog leg. leaving chance of hitting neighbour house, backing up easy for me having lived on farm getting harder after stroke So when buddy ended up with his own tractor ducks lined up, tractor broke one last time gave tractor to brother in law sold trailer cut deal with buddy to cut grass. Now he gets paid to have fun cutting which I miss, his tractor he maintains easy for him as he is tractor mechanic. He is same age as me could us money more than I plus after he cuts grass we need to drive down to pay him visit. WIth the E coat the srtip acted as ground and the conveyor also for auto., identical to electroplating just using paint . Only health issue now is walking distance age not helping turn 71 in few days. cognitive issues are mainly spelling, all stuff I learned in grade school effected double letters e or a i stuff like that same with math carrying when adding

Still sounds brilliant the hydraulic pump mod on Yard tractor, ( very good) still hec of a mod. . Presume the hydraulic pump was driven off the blade drive pulley underneath .
But do you recall if he managed to employ the existing pulley system or adding a extra level of pulley to the belt drive pulleys in order to address a belt to drive the hydraulic pump?
actually that sounds like a masterful conversion ! Extremely creative. Besides the linesr activator Was most likely a big drain on the factory stock electrical system on my Tractor.
Especially after adding the electric winch to the same same electric system .
Yes agreed getting the yard done on that tractor was very satisfying feeling. And getting out and doing a functional thing, and the vibration of riding the tractor prolly helped circulation of the rider/ driver ? ( speculation)
Understood about smaller spelling issues, and Not so bad on my basic math.. At this point in time . Not sure, I am able to entirely digest the process of the E plating yet ? Other than electrifing the bath ,the item is drawn through .Realize please that you make be writing to a rather simpleton ,when describing that process. Sorry to know of your changes post stroke .
Have had periodic stability issues ( balance) that am still not willing to acknowledge for my own self . Although am keeping a cane in the vehicle and the house ,just in case.
While quietly hiding a rolator ( walker on wheels in my shed) .
Not to worry too much on spelling, am experienced in reading , translating generally. what is meant versus what is actually spelled out 😁. And depending on time of day , my spelling may suffer 🙃. Been taking steps to mitigate those issues ( coffee) LoLols mornings only btw . but Studied some of Dr. Dirk Peirson MD & Dr Sandy Shaw Phd.
Authors of a older Book 1970s era " Life Extension" for advise to bolster brain nutrition.
And applied them. 🎆

My ability to walk slowly degrading stroke/age not sure. Spelling math improving with practice hydraulics was easy similar to cement mixer truck, pulley up front.

Am trying to envision ,the drive off the front of a lawn tractor ? ours must have been too new,, only pulleys to tap power off were on the bottom to drive the blades . And since it was NO Ford 800 no power take off on the rear. And Was trying to keep the mower deck intact . on the tractor. mountings . So thought straight forward would be the linear activators . Am hoping you continue improve on the health issues .
Did you write of a "dry " method to coat with a method that is more of a spray on ? of a type of plating . ?
Thank you very much for the vid ! but at the end he did not qualify ,purposes of the permeatr tank ? Made me feel as if I am underdoing my own process with , I just surface prep with the high achohol after a fine sanding ? , that is a bit of equipment to do at home .🫣😆

Yes I used the bottom pulley hooked up to pump I attached to front of tractor. I took deck off to use loader,
The paint I used on a coil line put on with wire wound drawdown bar, could cure in 30 seconds or so depending on resin system spray took 15 minutes to cure in oven. spray is post paint coil is pre-paint. E-coat is type of plating very dry when it come out of tank. Pretreatment prevents corrosion which you can then prime over for adhesion, If you understand the process the way I do Wagner spray gun damp blanket is all you need.

Aha, okay , understood, about the mower deck being removed . Then making the drive pulley available for use for drive power to the pump . Rest is Angle and dangles of hydraulic lines and valve controllers . And high grade steel channel ,etc. All fun ,home engineering .😁 ((Oddly thought of a power steering pump to provide hydraulic fluid pressure up. Mounted sideways to align the drive and power steering pump pulley.))
Nice job , Treating that, had seen those pull start ,pulley starters rust out over the years . undestood about the baking process , Need to ask about , the stuff in the Wagner spray gun ?
Zinc Phospate ? Would actually need to see that done first hand . To get a good grasp
of the initial Application ? Or am I just being dense .. I have no hands on experience on this stuff.

Wagner spray gun retail cheap plastic home use spray gun, no air compressor needed, plug in wall socket easy to clean not full of metal other than needle so no worry about phosphating gun parts. The trick about zinc phosphating is understanding how it works what to look for, Auto body guys etc, could learn off me would make the vehicles last years longer. They like to use wash primer and then repaint, I could change the refinish industry over night with some learn of the stupid stuff they do. or do not do. I like giving advice to people fixing tractors, cars and stuff. No your not dense, learn by seeing. Once you see and get it your on your way. My best example wife gave me guitar as gift years ago got DVD from great courses how to play guitar, following instructions and then on third or fourth lesson mentioned how to hold instrument realized i had it upside down and backwards. I'm a visual learner ambidextrous Boy I was pissed

Another example Wanted to teach my wife how to use the wagner to paint some closet doors, she could not do it so I showed her why It was running viscosity slightly was slightly high just added few drops water to water based paint, not one run, If she had done it herself she would have added too much water, watching me add a few drops shocked her. I understand viscosity she does not.

On that guitar thing....am guessing , maybe you might have been able to teach Jimmy Hendrix, to play? backwards and upside down. One of Hendrixes claim to fame ..Lololzz.
Amongst other music pros . 😎. And was nice that you took the time to teach your wife about thickness , or Lolzz density ( viscosity) of the product being applied Lolz . Her problem was my problem . As not understanding well about thickness of paint applied. Did not mix my own but was confined to a rattle can. For what I thought was a more expediant way to recoat used
Game cabinets for old style stand up vid games . A little practice and tutoring by more experienced Painter. And runs happened much less, more coats if necessary . If too light of a spray ? Had many runs early in practice. 🙃. Those doors with blinds appeared to have come out quite well. 👍.May start looking out for a old plug in wagner sprayer, ( if well maintained) . Yes , indeed seems likelyhood of Ambidexterity seems to appear much more often in ND community . Lost some of that ability in a accident .Spinal cord damage. Never quite fully recovered. But determination got the better of me.And the so called veggie , stuck in a wheel chair ,diagnosis given my mom only lasted a year. After the coma / paralysis phase upgraded to walker time had passed. . Prior to that had considered playing a guitar Left handed ,even bought one. Obviously considerations had changed after that. Very nice learning to play from a DVD .Good on You , Think I read that Autodidacts learn in that manner . Observing ,/ doing, than just being told or just reading about something, although have often Used what I read to modify some of my learnings.
Must admit to not expecting a few drops to be adequate to thin a mixture adequately ,but as written before ! (little to no experience .) water or oil , but do get the basic princple .😳🥺

From above not sure I quite understood your use of the term coil in pre paint phase ?
Most painting is done after product made. post paint, pre-paint is paint large coils prior to manufacturing product much faster, no orange peel other issues Very few people are experts at both.

Yes your rattle can use very fast solvents ester no control of viscosity ease of use lots of runs even when I use it.
prefer spray gun I can control.
