How do you prefer your anime?

Dubbed, subbed, or in original Japanese w/o subtitles?

I used to prefer subtitles only back in the '90s, but the quality of English dubs in anime has increased immeasurably since those days.

I'm fine with English Sub or English Dub, although I tend to lean more towards the dubs where possible.

The show was made in Japanese, I'm gonna watch it in Japanese with subtitles. That goes for anything originally made in any foreign language, I wanna watch it in the language it was made in.

I tend towards dubbed because it doesnt require that I A: have my glasses on, or B: constantly look down at the bottom of the screen instead of looking at whatever is actually happening. Also I grew up watching only dubbed (because that was what was on SciFi, they never aired anything subbed as far as I remember).

That being said, it's very rare that I watch any these days. I dont remember the last time I saw something that looked interesting. It seems like it's just one isekai after another, or like... I dunno, the sorts of series that get fans arguing about power scaling, I dont get that part.

I never understood why so many autistic love anime until I meet them online. I though I was alone. Just subscribe to crunchyroll after watching stuff on Hulu. I love the old stuff.

I preferably dubbed. I find the English dialog great emotional, funny and everything in between.

Doesnt matter how many times I see that, it's still awesome. I love that monster-ship design, or whatever that is. It looks like something out of Gradius or R-Type.

Also the pacing is just great. Seems like a lot of modern series, everyone spends like 70% of every fight explaining powers to each other or something? I think that's one of the reasons I tune out so easy. I mean good grief I'm not watching this to hear the main character stop 20 seconds into a fight to talk in depth about how this legendary flute with a horse on it will give him magic sawdust powers, conveniently at the very last moment of course. I'm here to watch spaceships punch each other and see some over the top sci-fi lunacy. If you have to pause the action every 2 seconds to explain something, you havent done very good worldbuilding.

Or at least that's how I see it anyway. Maybe I'm wrong, since everyone else seems to love the explaining and whatnot.

I've not really seen it, outside brief clips off YouTube. But yeah. I heard it's basically like someone making a Abridged Series bit it's actually a offical dub.

On a mildly unrelated note. When I first saw the title of this thread. My mind IMMEDIATELY went to food jokes.

"Shaken, not stirred."

"Crispy, not rubbery"

"Over easy, with a side of hashbrowns."

"Medium well, with a side of carmelized onions."

I watch subs with partner since they know japanese and dont even need the subs.

I watch dub alone though since I dont know japanese and would need to keep looking down at subs.

Sometimes both because certain translations get lost, and I really won't understand the scene whichever way the first go round. Rurouni Kenshin comes to mind, for example, which is finally added to Netflix recently.
