Greetings!
I'm 23 years old and was diagnosed with Asperger's a couple years ago. I also have ADD, depression and social anxiety.

Prior to diagnosis, no one ever proposed or suspected I had ASD since I got good grades (and that's the only thing anyone seemed to care about), but I now realize that the signs were always there. Sadly, the reason it became obvious was because I started having meltdowns in college which caused me to withdraw temporarily to get help. Afterwards, I put myself into a complete state of isolation where I wouldn't leave the house or talk to anyone.

However, I am now trying to gradually get back into the world of the living and be more sociable, and this is part of the reason I joined this forum! :) Moving back to the city tomorrow and going back to physical classes in Fall (in online ones now), hopefully! Fingers crossed that this time it will go better!

I look forward to participating here!

Welcome to the forums, Sloth.
You're living like I feel I would like right now.
My feelings of wanting to withdraw were brought on by traumatic life changes.

Hope being here will be a start for you. It helps me. :)

Hi & Welcome,
That kind of stumble is common with ASD folks. But you seem to be recovering well. Hope the forum is useful for you and all goes well in the fall.

Thanks Tom , NinaB , Nitro and Isadoorian and SusanLR !

I hope it helps me too :) . Sorry to hear that you are in such a state. I think isolation as a solution can be fine in the short time to calm down, rethink, and "recharge" , but long term I realized that I also wasn't going to improve and move on by doing nothing, and I now feel more ready to try again.

Of course it will go better. You've been to both extremes, now you are better placed to understand how you work and spot the anxiety building up and maybe start to see the meltdowns coming. Remember, aspergers is not a condition, disability or disease, aspergers is more of a personality type. So if you isolate yourself regularly, say spend weekends alone or something, find ADD coping mechanisms, then you will be able to find a good balance. Best of luck :fourleaf:
