Hi there

tkcartoonist

Tunes and Toons
I'm always really bad at introduction threads, but I'll give this a try. My name is Tony. I'm a cartoonist/musician/writer...basically a creative if I can best describe myself. I also, like many others here, have Aspergers.

It's a very mild form, to the point that most people wouldn't even know I have it, but extreme stress can really bring it out, and sometimes I have a really hard time controlling my temper. I have, in the past, flown into a blind rage against what I perceive to be a slight, and it's not a pretty sight. I flew into one very recently, and it resulted in a lot of problems for not just myself, but someone I care about too.

Instead of dwelling on the negative in an intro thread though, I might as well share some more positive things. Below is a link to my Bandcamp page of music I've done. I also do the cover artwork as well to give a small idea of what my art looks like.

Buskers

In addition to that, this is a video a guy I knew put together a couple of years ago about me and my condition/struggles.

Thanks for taking the time to read this. I'm glad I found this place.

Hi and welcome to the forums. I have to work on controlling my rages too.

I actually used to be much better at it after struggling as a kid, but the last five years and especially the last three months have made that extremely difficult. I'm trying to make more of an attempt now, but I have a long road ahead of me.

Hi Tony and welcome to the forums!

I second unperson's A+ rating for your intro. Its great that you have found a creative outlet through your art. I wish you every success in that area. I will definitely go and check out your music. Do you play any instruments? Its interesting to note that many of the great artists may have been autistic.

Happy trails as you explore the forums and make new friends!

I play most of the instruments and sing as well. I'm a little new with playing instruments, but I sang a lot when I was younger.

Thanks for the replies so far.

So then you are a multi-instrumentalist. That's awesome! Some of my favorite musicians are multi-instrumentalists such as Mike Oldfield and Vangelis. Have you ever seen Antoine Baril on YouTube? He plays everything in his videos. I'm sure there are other solo musicians as well if you explore enough.

Do you like to read? I found a book that you may find helpful. It talks about managing strong emotions. I though that you may be interested in knowing about it.

I'll have to check that out. Ever heard of Days of the New? I remember them when they were sorta-big twenty years ago, and I always liked that they were an acoustic rock band, but never really got into them much. Well, I found out a few years ago that the main singer and songwriter, Travis Meeks, is on the spectrum himself. I've been exploring more of their music lately as a result.

So far I recognize the song Touch, Peel and Stand. I am guessing that I heard it on either Spotify or Pandora. Perhaps when listening to an Indie radio station? Thanks for the tip! Have you ever heard Wardruna? I listen to them when I'm reading or writing. They're an interesting mix of music styles.

I'm curious. As an Aspie do you ever have difficulty understanding lyrics? I realize that its an odd question to be asking a songwriter. I love music but I have a language deficit that makes understanding lyrics difficult depending upon the writer's style. That leaves me searching for instrumental bands to listen to. My favorite purely instrumental album is probably The Odd Get Even by Shadowfax. Do you ever do any instrumentals?

I've done some instrumentals, but when I do it's mostly experimental. I've done some things that are more or less sound collages, but down the road when I get more confident in my playing skills I want to do some more and have them have some structure.

Dang. I just saw you stuff and you are really good. Welcome to the forum!

Thanks. It's much appreciated. I do the recording and mixing myself, although I always show my stuff to a friend first. He used to run a recording studio a long time ago, so he's my go-to source for mixing.

Normally I wouldn't bump up an ancient thread like this, but I have been gone for over a year so I think it merits it. Without going into too much detail on a public forum, I've spent the last year in a mental hospital. If anyone cares to know more, PM me.
