Hi, My name is Dan, and I believe I am autistic. I was never diagnosed as a child due to the fact that 40 years ago, autism wasn't a spectrum. Recently I heeded someone's observations that I may be autistic and started doing some research. The more I read, the more it fits.

I hope to learn more about how to live with autism without shrinking away and not socializing with anyone. Right now, my dream is to live in a small house in the country doing freelance graphic design work from home and never see anyone except for church on Sundays. That may be a defense against the pain of trying to socialize and failing so often. Maybe if I learned some social skills, I would socialize more and be willing to be around people more.

A bit more about me is that I am finally going back to college to get a BFA in Graphic Design. It is weird being 41 in a class full of 19-22-year-olds. But then again, I have felt like the odd one in class all my life, so what's the difference.
 
Hi and welcome. That sounds like a great course you are on! I actually can't see much wrong with Yr dream plan, except I think it's good to have a friend or two if possible, or maybe a loose group of others who share an interest, we do all need people sometimes. You have lots to offer, so you could maybe get that by attending an interest group, volunteering, or helping out with church projects a little? When Covid is less busy anyways. I hope you enjoy it here and find it useful and supportive.
