I have never been in a psychologists office except when I was in 10th grade for excessive use of drugs trying to fit in with people, wrong kind people.Although, hanging out with drug users and thugs is particularly bad,I still got some kind of social skills.Sadly not the kind I can use around normal well-adjusted people.I'm self diagnosed at the moment because every trait, (I TRAIT BECAUSE I DON'T BELIEVE THIS TO BE A DISEASE).I fit into every trait of ASD that is listed everywhere I literally can't start a conversation with a stranger or if someone approaches me I barely respond and the person is either put off thinking I'm being rude not looking at him/her and barely

I understand. I also learned social skills from drug users. They were the only ones who accepted me and it was easier for me to blend in with them than to stand out in the awkwardness of the normal way of making friends.

Indeed, we are different- but not necessarily deficient. And easily misunderstood.

Welcome to AC.
