Hello everyone,
Last November 2014, I was diagnosed with ADHD. The assessment and diagnosis took place at the ADHD specialist unit at an NHS hospital in London, UK. For those outside the UK, the NHS (National Health Service), is our health care system which is generally free at the point of use.
While being assessed, the specialist ADHD doctor decided to refer me to an NHS autism spectral disorder (ASD) unit. In his opinion, he was "pretty sure" I'm on the ASD. There is a waiting list, and my ASD assessment will be in February 2016.
Some life long friends and my brother have suggested that I might have "aspergers syndrome". Recurring issues are: lack of empathy, obsessional behaviour and fixed way of doing things. Anywa, this is what others say to me.
I've struggled with the ADHD medication. Things got to the stage where my GP intervened. So now I see him most weeks. And my GP arranged for me to see a psychologist.
I've had my first meeting with the psychologist. We talked a lot about what makes me anxious. Much of it is changes in routine and uncertainty.
I really want to chat to those with diagnosed aspergers / ASD. An aspergers diagnosis would explain a lot about my behaviour and anxiety. But we shall have to see what happens at the ASD assessment, however anxious the wait is !
Thanks and look forward to getting to know others.
Regards - Shinkansen
