HAHA! I love it.

Yesterday, May the 4th, was a good day for a young autistic couple at the hospital. It all started months ago when they had a baby that was born with a very rare connective tissue disorder that effected the baby's lungs. The baby was on a breathing machine,...and will likely be this way for a while. This young couple were definitely into Star Wars, Yoda, and the Mandelorian. There was all sorts of Yoda and "baby Yoda" posters and figurines around his bedside. Fears amongst the staff were that because this young couple were on the spectrum, acted immature for their age, that they wouldn't be able to take care of their medically complex baby,...and would need foster care. Well, much to to surprise and happiness of the staff, this couple was dedicated, came in every day, learned about their child's condition, learned how to use a feeding tube, how to take care of a tracheostomy tube, how to deal with emergency situations, CPR, and the mechanical ventilator.

On May the 4th, we all gathered around their baby's room and congratulated them upon their new chapter in their lives,...with "May the 4th be with you" posters,...discharged the baby home with them,...and escorted them out of the hospital.:)

One thing the staff didn't realize about many autistics. Despite what may appear to be some degree of intellectual difficulties and immaturity,...never underestimate love and an extreme focus to overcome a scary, intimidating, overwhelming, but worthwhile goal,...their baby coming home with them.;):)
