Gym

Does anyone goes to a gym here? I feel kinda lost seeing all these machines and weights, but it looks like a cool thing to me.

I haven't really used a gym. but I need to start getting in some exercise. I've got my own weights at home so I sometimes use them. At the moment I can't justify the cost of the gym, maybe when I can gain some employment I might take it up, but I'll have to wait.

I go to the gym in the morning, 5-6 times a week. I really enjoy lifting. It's a kind of exercise that doesn't require much socialization or motor skills unlike most sports. And it can help people with their self-esteem as it improves their physical condition and gets them fit.

Ruennsheng, if you go to a good gym, you'll get proper orientation from a certified instructor who will help you around. You'll feel comfortable in no time.

I admire your dedication Pedro, I'm currently stuck in a crappy routine at the moment. How long have you been going to the gym on a regular basis?

I've been going for 1,5 year. I've been working out since I was 18 though, but I had to stop doing it at one time or another due to university obligations or work.

The thing is: lifting weight is something I enjoy doing. I hate running, for instance, therefore I doubt I would do it regularly for one month. My Asperger's and OCD play a role here too. I think I'd get upset if I couldn't go to the gym.

If you're considering exercising, think about an activity you might enjoy doing. If the idea of a physical activity is bad in itself, then try to find what's so terrible about it. Then try to slowly change your attitude about it. See if you can begin doing something. Once you start it, you'll find easy to commit.

Yeah I've never been the most active of people also it doesn't help that I'm rather sedentary at the moment, I'll have to slowly ween myself off of the computer.
I have to my credit started doing push ups regularly and the occasional weights, so I'll concentrate on getting those into a regular routine.
My attitude can get in the way for sure, I always have a voicing telling me "you could be doing something else" and most of the time it prevails over my fitness goals. With an increase of discipline and attitude I should have a more consistent and positive mindset.

Thanks for the encouragement, Pedro

I know what you mean. A lot of people think about the trade off. Think about the reasons you are thinking you should exercise more. Are they of greater importance than what you could do instead? Besides, most people have plenty of time to do everything.

That is true, I also need to exercise more as diabetes is prevalent within my family.
