I just got back from my trip and I am sooo tired (I hate flying) but I had to update. As you could see by the title I was accepted into the program!

I will be for sure starting in January or maybe sooner depending on room configurations. I am hoping I get the 4-5 months just to prepare as I am in effect moving across the country. I am very scared but excited also terrified! I will be able to decorate my room and I get unrestricted access to my phone and computer so I will still be able to post here! (maybe less often as I will be more busy)

Starting now I will be preparing to leave and getting things I need plus slowly trying to get used to a more busy life than I have been living. This is all a lot to process so I will be ending the post for now but if you were tired of me talking about this before I am sorry but this might be a lot of what I talk about for the foreseeable future on account of that being my main goal and most interesting thing in my life currently.

You got accepted into a college, I'm guessing?

I didn't realize you were so young. My daughter is almost your age. She's not sure what college to go to yet. It's sort of stressful.

Any advice on how to look for and apply to universities would be very, very helpful. All I've ever done is trade school and a little bit of community college.
Not collage (not cut out for that lol) but I am the right age. I was accepted to a residential transition program. I will live in a big house with housemates and staff and I will get help with independence and job skills so I don't live at home forever and I can go into the world on my own!!

So exciting. Another success story here.

It's a lot to take in right now. Just remember what relaxes you. Hot shower or bath, your favorite stuffed animal, a super soft blankie you pack (like polar fleece), pictures of loved ones. Maybe some earbuds when you want to total get away. Sneak some candy in somehow, you favorite book? These will help you feel at home. Congrats.

Yes! When I toured I was surprised how lived in it was. People had stuff animals on their beds and and knick knacks on shelves and some even had their own comforters (I will be seeing if i can get a comforter that has space type things on it. Like stars and planets not galaxy print) I will be able to bring nice things with me plus I can facetime family. The real waiting thing now is next week they will let me know if I can come in a weeks to a month or in four months so there is some anxiety there. I am actually holding my favorite stuffed animals while under my blankets as I write this as it is the perfect cure to the excitement I am feeling. I just can't believe they liked me! Oh goodness I am quite overwhelmed so I am sorry for rambling but yes I will amp up self care here while I am here and of course there when I get there. I told them as long as they don't get upset when I cry a lot during the change it will be ok. They didn't seem to mind and of course as they only work with young adults with my functionality or around that it makes sense they would understand. I understand this is a reply plus more but I will bold the part that applys to you in case you don't want to read the whole thing.

What's not to like? You seem like a very likeable person from this side of the internet. :D
Cool to see you so happy. It's nice. We need more happy around here.
Thank you! I sure try to to be but when I am new places I get shy and shut down so not very friendly. I agree we need more happy we always do. I don't think people notice enough of the little joys and this is a big joy so I am more than happy to share that with the forum (I am of course so excited I am telling everyone I can so this is good for me too lol)

Told you that you were in .

Congrats my young friend (smiling warmly )

You will do just fine over there im shore . Just take it from day to day. They already know what they needed to know so they will be both accepting as well as understanding.

Congratulations and well done! This is a great move! Quite honestly, colleges and universities also have plenty of people who are crying for weeks or more about the experience of leaving home, and/or struggling to manage.

It's a myth that everyone enjoys it right away. Plenty take a good while to adjust, many people hate the social scene based around alcohol. It can be very challenging for many, and it's great to have a supported residential plan like this to help you make this transition.

You sound very balanced and realistic about it. Hope there's a good library. The library was my happy place at uni. I read all of Henry James the first term, and any of Thomas Hardy I hadn't found before, they had full sets.

That is good news!
I remeber how nervous you were, it is good to see you excited.
Do you get your own room?

Cool! When I was 18 I had to jump into the deep end and go out on my own without any support at all, with my psychiatrist telling my parents not to let me do it since he thought I would never accomplish anything and live in my childhood bedroom the rest of my life with my radios and clocks. It sounds like you have it made. Wow!

Very happy for you! They should do that program in all high schools, it sounds great!

So nice to see younger people being responsible, your way ahead of so many people by going out on your own - very impressive!

It is exciting that you will have a chance to grow, and even perhaps learn a bit about yourself. I hope we will see you here as an even more confident person. How wonderful.

We do! I am looking for something like that or something with Neptune on it since that's my favorite planet or maybe stars. I find dark colors and the night sky calming when it comes to sleep.
