I Liv in US and I don't know about other countries, I have however driven cab on and off in jy 20's and have known some people who waited as well.

The system is this way for a reason, It motivates and rewards good service.

I use this rule of thumb for taxi and restaurants I use 20 % as a baseline, good service gets 20%

Exceptional service gets 30 %

Mediocre service gets 10 to 15%

Bad service maby 10% or really bad no tip
