Getting a new PC

Well that sucks...lol. Dang...I like the sandboxing of those GoG games though. Makes so much sense.
No Man's Sky is a good example for me. I like the specific version I bought, 3.75. I could have manually updated it if I wanted but after I read through the changes log I decided against it. I like the game I've got just the way it is.

If I was using Steam I would not even be consulted in this and I would have no choice in the matter.

Good point. With developers, the latest changes aren't always advisable unless you've got the latest hardware to adequately support it. They're always pushing the edge of the envelope, more than most customers may appreciate. Yet another reason why I got out of gaming many years ago. I couldn't keep up with having to upgrade my hardware just to play games with increasing requirements. And in some instances where patches caused more problems than solutions.

With No Man's Sky performance isn't an issue for me. Instead they made changes to gameplay that I don't like, they made it more battle oriented for the attention deficit crowd. I don't have much interest in first person shooters, I prefer to explore and to build.

Are you running Gog games ported to Windows but running them through Wine? Seems to me you mentioned this some time ago. The few Windows games I tried to run through Wine failed miserably.

You said that the old spare monitor you're using now looks good, that means you don't have to rush to make a decision. You can take your time and explore all the differences between them and make a decision when it feels right.

I got so excited trying your idea to make the monitor I have look good I forgot to thank you. Now I do not need the new monitor. I can think about it and wait.

Thank you 🙂

You're more than welcome Grommet. Today all of our media is aimed at making people rush their decisions and to spend money needlessly, "Buy now and save!".

It's not always easy to take a more relaxed view.

True. Retailers love to exploit the possibilities of FOMO. :(

I did not think about that but I think you are right. Amazon and Dell make me think there is a really good deal but I am about to miss it if I do not buy it now. I get so nervous. I do not want to miss out. I forget about whether I need the thing though.

Linus Sebastian on Linus Tech Tips says "It only matters if you notice it." He talks about chasing numbers like resolution, frame rate things like that. He also says there is always going to be something new that is better but you cannot always be waiting. He said enjoy what you have and if you like it, you do not need something new.

When I hear gamers talk they always talk about what came out that week or month. they want the newest. I start thinking that way because I want to be a gamer too but Linus would say it is not important.

Misery says there is advertising all over the internet, she was trying to show me it was in places I did not realize. She says it does not affect her because she knows what they are doing. She tried to teach me to do that but I forget. Sometimes I get a lot of anxiety because I do not want to miss out on a great deal but I cannot spend the money. I go back and forth. I forget about whether I need whatever the thing is.

I bought a pocketknife years ago and it is perfect for me. I was looking for the right pocketknife since I was 10. I did not like any of the ones I got all my life, all wrong for me. Then I found the perfect one and sales on other knives do not affect me because I do not need another pocket knife.

I do want the best monitor I can get though so I still have to think about that but I wish everyone could see how the game looks now that I made the changes in the graphics settings.

It is important to know how to use things right. I think something is not very good then I find out it was me, not knowing how to use it. When my friend taught me to sail my boat would not go very fast. HGe told me to let the lines out a little, let the boat breathe. The boat got faster right away. I was trying to control it too much.

I do not know why I cannot do what Misery can. I still see sales and feel like I am making a mistake if I do not buy. I get tricked. Not the seller's fault, I just get fooled easily.

It works on me very much. I have bought so many things and got the thing, lost the money and had it wondering why I did that.
Amazon has stung me a few times in the past. But they only had three left! Then after I bought mine, suddenly a whole new batch pops up. Yeah, it happens.

I did not know they could lie. That seems like a lie to me. I am amazed you said only three left because I see that too and it makes me nervous so I buy before I can afford to. If they have more suddenly that feels suspicious but maybe it is a glitchy way their system works.

The reality is that forms of "bait and switch" like that have been around forever. Though yes under the very circumstances of selling things online they can always fall back on claiming programming errors or similar excuses.

Lt. Saavik: "You lied!"
Mr. Spock: "I exaggerated."

I found a great little pocket knife cheap when I was still only a teenager and that little knife stuck with me for nearly 40 years. I dropped it in soft sand late one night and never found it again.

When I originally bought that little knife, only 5 inches full length, it was on display in some public markets in Melbourne and you used to see them everywhere. This time it took me a lot longer to find another one the same so when I found them (online) I bought 2 of them. One is still in it's packaging hiding at the bottom of one of my kitchen drawers.

You see the same knives but with different brand names stamped in to them but they all come from the same factory in China. Buy one of these with the name Winchester stamped in to the blade and it'll cost you US$50, buy the exact same knife with no branding it costs $4.

Learning a lot. My friend is helping me. Today I learned how to use NVIDIA app to record.

I thought it was very beautiful. I wanted to fly through clouds at sunset. At about 2:44 the view changes and you can see the sun.

About 150FPS in MSFS 2024, most settings Ultra, terrain and object level of detail at 150, CPU temp staying in the 40ºC range. CPU only working at 33%, maybe why. GPU at 97%, 67ºC

I thought this information interesting for people who study PC's.

Flying treetop level over Pennsylvania. Clouds are my favorite, and trees. And homes and farm. So beautiful. I know what it is like there in August. So hot, sweating through my clothes, wanting shade under the trees. The smells of the grass and the wet soil. The pain on barns has a smell in the summer heat. The air feels different. It can be the most beautiful place on earth.

When I play I get to imagine all that and about the people in the cars and farms and houses. I feel sad so I visit them.

Thanks....with that degree of detail against the thermodynamic considerations, you should be able to use your computer like that day-end and day-out without any real stress on the system.

Thank you for telling me. I am learning. The PC came with a 1,500 watt Platinum PSU. I never had better than Gold 80. ChatGPT says the Platinum will help the PC run cooler.

Today with the GPU at 97-98% I still could not hear any fans and the case feels cool. My friend has this PC one generation older and he says the fan noise is very loud. My case it very large, I have never seen one this big. It is supposed to help with cooling.

I think Alienware did something amazing. Runs MSFS 2024 at highest settings but stays cool and quiet.

How big is the "map" you can fly over? Are you able to visit other countries?

I think you are asking me, Grommet.

The map is unimaginably huge. It seems impossible. You can visit almost any city, any place, on Earth and with very accurate detail. Locally, my friend who I fly with was looking in the game at the airport close to where he lives. He said it is exact, they even got the trees right.

One one my favorite things is to travel, see the world and go places I never could. It is not like cartoons. I think they get the information for the game from Google maps and satellite photos.

It is too amazing to me for words. So beautiful but also you could fly over Paris and change the time of day while flying so you can see it at sunset or very early morning. You can change the weather and see it in the rain, overcast or a sky with no clouds.

The game uses RTX (ray tracing. I think you know what it is but I could explain it if you ask). So you can see the reflections of a lake you fly over on the underside of your plane. You can see the shadow of your plane on the ground following you.

My favorite is to fly from the state of Massachusetts on the east coast of the U.S. over the water to the island of Martha's Vineyard. Yesterday I flew something better, from KMVY (Martha's Vineyard) to Boston Logan airport. I set my altitude at about 200 feet. What I see is so wonderful.

When I flew to the place I did in the video I posted, I could see farmhouses. Small dirt roads very bright in the August sun. The thing is, they are real. They are not drawn just for the game. If you went to those places, the buildings would be there and the same color, everything. The game can not keep up in real time with changes but it puts in the game what it saw in the satellite photos and Google Earth.

I now have a tv instead of a monitor. The monitor was very good but looked very bad with FS. I got a 32 inch QLED and now it looks like it did when I used to play the game on my television. That is what I wanted but left using PC monitors because people said that is what you do.

When I flew over Martha's Vineyard I could see where the water near the shore changed color, turquoise over the sand in the shallows. There are whitecaps in lakes and bays.

I do not know how much of the world I will get to see in the game, it takes a long time. You could go to Australia, your own neighborhood even but also the pyramids in Giza. You can also get out of your plane and walk about. There is a feature that would let you continue walking for thousands of miles though I do not think someone would but you could.

There is a drone camera you can use that is much faster than walking and lets you go up extremely high and look down or go along the ground. You could explore woods or the Grand Canyon.

I wrote a lot, you asked me about something I liked.
