Getting a new PC

Yes, that's exactly all I had in mind - to simply cover the carpet. Needs to be something fairly rigid so that the feet of the computer don't just sink it in to the carpet though, eg: a thin sheet of plastic wouldn't be much good because the computer would sink in to the carpet anyway and the carpet would mold itself around the feet and block air access.

That's why I thought of cheap chopping boards.

I am using these square section steel pieces, they raise the PC almost an inch above the carpet. Using your idea I thought I could put some silicone sheet I have between them to cover the carpet there. That way the PC feet will be on something solid, not the sheet.

Yes. Good idea. The two together would work perfectly.

What about this? The chair is very strong. It would raise the PC up. Also it matches the wood of the desk but I am worried about it putting all that heavy weight not on the case feet but the bottom of the case.

That would also work fine. I very much doubt that the case resting on it's base instead of it's feet is going to cause any problems. As long as it isn't wobbly when it's sitting on the chair it should be good.

With you being in a wheelchair having the computer a little higher up will probably make life easier for you too. Easier to access USB ports etc.

I feel dumb because I did not think about that. It would help me so much. My biggest problem is reaching things.

From what I keep hearing one reason the PC is so heavy is because the case is very strong so maybe it will be okay.

I just measured the seat angle and it is 2º. Would that be a problem for the liquid cooling? I have a folding wooden tray also. I have put 50 or 60 lbs on it to test but I am worried about the 72lbs of the PC. The PC is new and expensive I do not want to ruin it right away with an accident - the stand not working. The chair is very strong and stable but the tray is level and moves the PC higher.

The folding table moves sideways a lot when I push on it.

Edit: I tried the folding table and it is weak and very unstable, I will not use it.

I am wondering how I will lift the PC onto the chair. If I cannot, I will need to have it on the floor.

I agree, that table looks like it'd be wobbly. I think the chair would be much better, it's a nice solid looking chair.

Is the 2º angle on the seat okay for the PC?
That should be fine. It only matters with actual spinning disks such as the older harddrives and DVD readers and they're supposed to be fine up to about 15 degrees tilt.

This is how it looks on my table using augmented reality. It is huge. I think unless I get a big desk I need to put it on the floor. Please excuse the mess, I have been moving things around.

The desk I have does not feel safe, it wobbled when I put 70lbs of weight on. Also it is too narrow, the monitor will touch the side of the PC. I had to get a new desk. I checked a lot, read reviews and ask ChatGPT. It is rate for more than 170lbs and has a motor to raise and lower so I can get the right height for my wheelchair. It was also on special low price.

I was too worried about safety to risk the desk I have with the new heavy PC so I did this. I will feel better later. I also thought about what if I had to go under the desk some time, scary with a wobbling desk.

A chair? So much weight sitting on a small space supported by four small legs.

Let's just say if you lived in my neck of the woods with earthquakes, you'd veto that one. You're better off looking for something that while unquestionably supporting the weight, is not too far off the ground. And that it won't be prone to wobbling.

I forgot about earthquakes, you and I do live near each other. A little scared now I did not prepare for that. The PC arrived this morning. I have it on my table, my new desk will not arrive for a week and is much wider.

I got the PC on to the desk. I started it and set it up, downloading things. It was heavy but I could lift it.

It is Intel i9 Ultra 285K, Nvidia Founder's Edition RTX 5090. I was shocked to find out the card is Founder's Edition.

My new desk. It raises up and down with an electric motor, this helps me a lot. It took two hours to build. The quality is excellent. The packing materials were so good. I think it looks good. I could not get a good enough picture but this is what my gaming station looks like. I have the mounts on for the Honeycomb Bravo throttle quadrant and Alpha flight controller yoke but I forgot to put them on the mounts for the picture. I cable managed but I still have a lot of tidying to do. Tomorrow I will try MSFS 2024 with my friend helping me.

We did FaceTime. My friend watched and coached me. MSFS 2024 running on all Ultra settings and DLSS4, the CPU never reached 40ºC I think that is amazing. The PC case is huge, they said it was to cool better. I think it is. Less than 40ºC, wow.

We had lots of problems with the flight but it was so neat he could see everything. I want to learn how to stream so he and I can watch what the other person is doing on their computer without using FaceTime.

Can anyone tell me how to stream?

Below a picture of my desk, how I used it for FaceTime. On the left is something I have to hold the phone, he would tell me to move to the right, left, up, down until he saw things just right.

Yes, the size of the case is definitely a factor in thermodynamics on a simple premise. The more air you can circulate inside the case and successfully exhaust it, the better. But wow, to go beyond idle temps and keep in the 40 degree range at load is amazing. Especially for that newer CPU.

Can't help you with streaming, but perhaps YouTube can:

My friend visited today and said my case is much larger than his. He has the previous version of this PC. He also said flying on mine was smoother. He said "like butter".

I checked and the temperature was higher today but it was warmer outside too. I saw that my CPU is at 94%. The GPU was less than 40%. So CPU is the bottleneck. Videos explain how it can be one or the other sometimes.

The PC is so quiet that when I set it to Performance mode and put my ear close to the case I still cannot hear anything.

My friend and I talked about streaming and he is excited about doing it too. He understands it better and says when he gets home he will figure it out and show me. He lives a few states away. I cannot remember how long since I saw him in person.

It was wonderful to have him actually here, not on Messages or something.

He got a free flying yoke and hated it. He said he is giving it to Goodwill or throwing it away. I wanted to know if mine felt the same to him. I have the Honeycomb Alpha. He loved it so much I think he may get it and the Honeycomb Bravo throttle quadrant though he does like the throttle he has now.

I am stuck about a monitor. I was moving my desk last week and my monitor fell over and broke. Alienware AW3423DWF. I started using another one I had and the colors looked much better to me but everyone, 100% of all the reviewers of my monitor that broke said it was great, it was the best gaming monitor.

A man in a video on YouTube said the Alienware AW3423DWF comes with the settings muted in case someone was going to use it for office work, so the brightness and colors would not bother them. So maybe I had a really good monitor but I did not know I needed to adjust it right. Now I do not know what to do. I lost my money when it broke and I will have to save to get another one.

When I played MSFS 2024 on my television it looked amazing. Crystal clear and perfect colors so I am disappointed when I play on a monitor and it looks bad. It is grainy and nothing is sharp. Maybe the Alienware AW3423DWF if I learned how to adjust it right would look as good as my tv. ChatGPT said it would and might even look better.

But if I buy it a second time and I cannot make it look very good I will feel so bad, like I made a mistake knowing I was making a mistake and I need money for other things. Not sure what to do. I tried learning about monitors on Youtube but so many videos, so much information. Also, all of them keep saying the one I had was the best. Occam's razor would say that it is the best monitor and looks great, I am the one who used it improperly. I trust Occam.

Any advice?

The only real difference between monitors these days is the Response Time, how quickly the monitor can update itself as the scenes change in your games. You want a monitor with a 1 milisecond response time.
