In America, We Have: The Vampire Diaries
In Japan, They Have: Diabolik Lovers

In America, We Have: American Horror Story: Freak Show
In Japan, They Have: Mr. Arashi's Amazing Freak Show (Phantomstrider talked about this)

And that's all I got, for now. But feel free to add to this! Or just comment on my observations.

I'm going to use Mr. Arashi to get my mom to let me watch AHS. Here's how it's gonna go down:

Me: "Hey, Ma. Can I watch American Horror Story on Netflix?"
Mom: "No, Riley. It's too dark and graphic. You might even get scared!"
Me: "Okay...Can I watch Mr. Arashi's Amazing Freak Show, then?"
Mom: "Sure! What's it about?"
Me: "It's got rats eating a dead woman's genitals, rape of a 12-year old, a hermaphrodite peeing, and puppy death. And more stuff, I think."
Mom: "...Ya know what? Go ahead. Watch American Horror Story. Just never watch Mr. Arashi under my roof!"

The Vampire Diaries and Diabolik Lovers have nothing in common beyond the generic theme of male vampires lusting after human women. A much more accurate anime counterpart to The Vampire Diaries would be Vampire Knight, and a much more accurate Western counterpart to Diabolik Lovers would be Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice.

Also, I'm surprised that nobody's pointed out that The Hunger Games ripped off Battle Royale yet.
