Do you agree that Technology is going too far?

She looks like Jennifer Lawrence.

As far as technology goes, I have concerns about some areas, like genetic engineering. Others, like WMD, scare the pants off me. I don't want there to be Nukes or Weaponized Viruses, etc. But this particular area, robotics AI, doesn't bother or scare me for some reason. I guess I don't see our level of technology now or for the foreseeable future being able to create a self aware machine. And I doubt machines of themselves will ever be able to cross the line into true consciousness.
I'm for genetic engineering, it will help cure a lot of genetic conditions. Genetic engineering was wrongly identified with eugenics due to a gross misunderstanding of genetics on the part of medical ethicists
. As for WMD, this staff has been around for many decades, I don't think anyone would use it for the fear of retaliation. This is the reason why neither Americans nor Russians nuked each other during the Cold War.

makes me think of Data from Star Trek TNG
Data is one of my favorite sci-fi characters. Until recently I thought I saw all TNG episodes. But recently, when I was watching one of the episodes again, I heard Data saying that once he had sex with a woman. I don't remember watching anything of this sort.

No rational person would start a nuclear war, but not everyone is rational. There are some who think they know a way to avoid retaliation, some who never think very far ahead, and the ever-greater possibility of events cascading, with faulty or ill-designed automation going out of control. During the Cuban Missile Crisis, only a hunch by Vasili Arkhipov derailed the disaster.

I remember him assuring Tasha Yar
that he was "fully functional."

Mine too.

They didn't show any of the sexual intimacy. I was confused by that as well, until I rewatched all of them.

@tree's post I somehow missed - that should tell you

Has fiction become indistinguishable from technology?
Fiction seems to have become indistinguishable from reality, at least for far too many people. In another forum, I see many, many questions asking about fictional things as if they actually existed (Why don't we just make things using replicators like in Star Trek and solve world hunger and shortages). Look at how many people think that actors are the actual character they portray.

I won't be travelling abroad as they want to finger print and photograph people.
I won't be getting a digital id. And I always sign pettions against facial recognition and digital IDs. I also wear only anti facial recognition clothing outside

It appears there is a bit more to it.
"n the Star Trek: The Next Generation episode "The Measure of a Man" (Season 2, Episode 9), Data explicitly states that he had been intimate with a woman. He makes this admission during a legal hearing to determine if he is sentient and has rights.
During the hearing, Captain Picard presents a holographic portrait of Lieutenant Tasha Yar, who had been killed in the previous season. The judge asks why Data, who has no emotions, keeps a portrait of a deceased crewmate. Data, after some hesitation and with Picard's encouragement, explains, "She was special to me, sir. We were... intimate"." Generated by AI

I asked the ai assistant on my phone about drones and it said:-

Drones present disadvantages such as safety risks to the public from collisions, privacy concerns due to surveillance capabilities, and technical issues like limited flight time and weather dependence. Dangers also include hacking vulnerability, the potential for misuse by malicious actors, and air traffic interference, as well as physical risks to operators.

An AI assistant on your 'phone? Tech is too far. It is an energy-gobbling monster being offered as a loss leader in hopes of making you dependent. It is also inhumanly treacherous. There are a lot of human executive assistants who effectively control their bosses by filtering their access. The AI assistant isn't even on your payroll. To have an assistant, you have to know enough to stay in charge and keep it as a tool. Habitual use will dull your own faculties.

isadvantages of a tap bank card include security risks like unauthorized transactions if lost or stolen, the potential for impulse spending due to ease of use, and limited acceptance in some countries. Accidental payments are also possible, especially if the card is held close to a reader, and there are also concerns about data skimming, though reputable systems have protections

I can't predict but I assume if Brits were polled most would rather not have their facial expressions monitored like in chinA
