Disorder at work

My boss asked me to calculate a beam, to know if it can support some stuff... We already know it can, cause another machine was put in another beam next to this one, and they are identical...
Still, he asked me, but he didnt give me almost any info, specially the type of beam... After a lot of asking, he finally got me the blueprints and got the beam type... and saw that it was actually 2 beams, but he told me that it wasnt actually like that, so i did the math like how he said...

I donnt know much how to do this stuff. I know the basics, which are enough for this problem, but idk how to use programs or anything for this stuff.

Now, he sends me photos... And its exactly as the blueprints said. Not only that, there is another beam that may or may not be in the blueprints, but i cant know cause i only got half of them... And to me, it looks like the beams I had to calculate dont really matter, and the important one is the new beam and its much more difficult to calculate.

I really dont care about what i have to do, but I do care about BEING ABLE to do it. I hate this half state between doing it and not having enough info to do it. I just want to finish it. I have been days at it to remember how its done, but never had enough info anywya... And now, that I finished everything, he sends me the pics contradicting everything... It just stresses me out.

I have more work to do, but I cant be changing topics every five minutes. In fact, I already do that and it leads to a lot of stress and mistakes. I already did mistakes in other works because of exactly this. I had to do some electrical calculations and mid project my boss asked me for a different set of electrical calculations, but I use the same excel template... So while I didnt mix them up, the first one I was doing, I left them half completed... and sent them like that without noticing...

And Im here, just waiting for my boss to call me to sort this **** situation... He sent me the pics more than an hour ago...

Your boss is a dick, not qualified for his position, not moving your career forward, as a mentor stressing you out, time to move on for your own sanity.

This is the best job I could ever have... Im alone most of my day and I dont have much work... Its just the autism that makes small things stressful. I also get paid pretty well, much more than I could hope and I think I wont ever get another job where I would get paid this much. In job search sites, all salaries for my studies with or without cap at about 30% lower... And those who reach my pay, need a lot of experience and are stressful ones... So I wont leave this job ever... Although It worries me a bit if I ever lose it cause I wouldnt have learned much..

So I made an electrical project, the one which I sent the wrong calculations, but I corrected it at the last minute and resent it... The inspector checked the installation and... Basically I dont know why I even bother calculation stuff, they do whatever they want. I calculate the thickness of the cables and they just put one much more thick, which is allowed, but then why I do this? Just cause its required legally, but in the end nobody cares about what I do... The circuit breaker panel was with different values in pretty much everything...
And tbh, I didnt even see the originals or anything, I never visited the site, like always... I just do stuff with barely any info... And when the inspector tells me that something is wrong I cant help but to get very embarrassed... I could tell me "i really dont know, i didnt even visit it, i dont know how it was or what they did"....

In the end, what most annoys me of all, is that my job is really meaningless. Whatever I do is just for other ppl to see or to pass some legal stuff, but its never anything tangible... I mean, this electrical stuff would have been if they actually followed anything of what I said, which to be honest is simple af, I dont know why cant they do it

I was unemployed for two years once finally got two job offers on same day, actually took lower paying one as it fit my career better three years later this fell apart, Next position paid considerably more as I had considerable experience and specialized education all the pieces had finally come together.Dream job lasted twenty one years retired. All that was missing was a promotion. Weirdest part saw article in magazine for ASTM in trade magazine seeking some one to put together a testing regiments for printing on a coil coating line. As a lark I applied thinking I would be under qualified No degree, no PHD stunned when they called be back few weeks later, not just to fill this voluntary position rather the offer was to chair the committee. I got cold feet passed it over. That's how life really works. Sometimes we underestimate our own abilities. Years later I told my former boss about this He had wondered what happened told him I was offered position he was stunned I was offered the chairman position. Bottom line this would have bought up the prestige of the company having one of their employees chairing the committee Potentially bringing in more business world wide. Never thought about it this way.

You NEED to report this supervisor to whoever things like this are reported to at your company.

In your line of business, it may be best to only be concerned that you deliver plans that are always within legal guidelines and specifications, and to have them formally documented in the event they are ever questioned.

So many "deviations" routinely occur between plans developed, and plans implemented in construction.

Some to meet legal specs, others....not so much. And all kinds of "interested parties" seeking to capitalize on it all. Which usually get swept under a rug until there is a loss and litigation ensues. Being mindful that some of those "interested parties" could be very troublesome to cross.

In some lines of commerce, curiosity can kill a cat and all nine of its lives.

Im stressed again...
My work place is in the ground floor of a small industrial unit with a door next to the warehouse, which is were the workers are, before they load up stuff and go away to work. Here there are 4 tables, 3 empty and one mine... But here is also the coffee maker, the bathroom, the printer... So at 7 AM workers pass frequently here to get coffee or go to the bathroom...
At this hour, my boss sits next to me to explain the work he wants me to do in 15 min. And one worker comes to get the coffee... Says GOODMORNING interrupting us... My boss says goodmorning back and some stuff, so distracted.... The coffee machine is incredibly loud, cant talk over it... But my boss still tries to talk to me... The worker stays standing next to us... In silence but saying something every 1 minute or so for 3 minutes, basically interrupting.... He goes away... Another worker comes in GOODMORNING... All this while he was trying to explain the work to me... Honestly, it stressed me out. I just wanted to scream "I SHOULD GO AWAY AND WHEN YOU FINISH TALKING WITH THEM I CAN FREAKING COME BACK"... Also my boss is always very motivated... So when he comes from the warehouse, which is frequently, he opens the door VERY HARD... And Im in silence working...

Luckily this **** is only for the first hour... And luckily hes out most of the time and I dont have much work...

Its a small company and hes the co owner of it. The other boss is the main owner, but he doesnt care and he trusts him. I mean, he gets work done... But he is so carefree. If hes told he has to do something according to some law, he does it... The problem is that he cant know many times, cause he does the switching without telling anyone.
Also, its me who has to redact the documentation after saying "we done this and that"... And I have sent some documentation that was wrong cause he switched something and Im absolutely embarrassed when that happens...

I dont mind signing HVAC projects that are written after everything is done... Cause nothing serious can happen even if everything was wrong... But electrical projects... With so much switcheroos, I dont feel comfortable...
I wonder what other people would do in my place... As far as I know, other ppl just swallow it too... And even if I demanded to go to see the final result, everything would be already covered, I could not see any details either...

He should be the engineer signing stuff, but since hes not, Im the one signing on his behalf... They pay me well... But to be honest, in spain, even if this is a good pay... Its not like its super high or anything, its just decent...

Perhaps because you're paid well enough just to "remain under the radar" of the authorities. Not to be over-compensated in a position where you are expected to "let certain things slide" on occasion.

Persons in such positions otherwise may "stand out" in any investigation involving allegations of corruption if and when they are paid more than they're worth in terms of payroll. When they may be compensated in other ways to evade the scrutiny of prosecutors and tax collectors.

-Or more pragmatically, to be left out of the loop entirely as a security precaution.

Reflecting two possible considerations: Those who are in on it, and those who don't know.

Sounds rather familiar to me. But I was trained to spot such happenings. Only to avoid their potential liability to an insurer. Both civil- and criminal considerations pertinent to construction contractors and all sorts of sub-contractors.

Have you ever considered the possibility that none of this is by happenstance ?
