I’m 22 years old and I’m autistic. I’m looking for places that make and customize clothing for autistic people. A place where a autistic person can request clothing and pay someone to customize it for them. Does anyone know where I can find this at? (A place that customizes clothes)

Hi! Any skilled tailor or seamstress should be able to work with you to make or customize an article of clothing using whatever parameters you'd like (size, design, fit, materials, etc.).

I don't know where you are, but in North America, it's increasingly hard to find truly skilled and experienced seamstresses and tailors who are familiar with a variety of textiles and can easily conceptualize designs and cuts since a lot of clothing manufacturing has been done overseas for many decades now, and many of the "old hands" are now at retirement age.

Maybe I'm misguided, but I feel like you can find someone to make you almost anything on the internet.

The downside? Really custom stuff can be pricey, plus you're going to be waiting for quite some time in most cases. You're usually better off finding a site that makes something close-enough.

Also, is this a custom functional design or mostly aesthetic? The latter probably already exists for sale somewhere.

I'm looking for someone to make stretch tube tops.
They used to be plentiful in clothing stores, but now have gone out of style.
I like wearing them instead of bras.
They are simple and much more comfortable.
I can't seem to find any seamstresses that will make them.

Can you help me. I don’t know what to look for

Dry cleaning establishments often have a seamstress or tailor who work there. If you can use google, try typing the name of the town where you live and the word "seamstress" or "tailor" to search for someone local.

Thank you. Will I get a discount for having Autism. Also are there any places that customize clothes that are specific to autistic people.

I've never heard of a discount for autism but ask them if they will give you a reduced price. They may say no, but better to ask just in case they will give you a discount.

You didn’t answer the second part of my question. Are there any clothing places that are specific to autistic people. Or is that all there is.

Recently, I bought a replacement zipper for my jacket. The customer behind me asked if I had someone to put it in, and mentioned her friend. The cashier then gave me her number.

I've never heard of clothing specific to autistic people. @Storm Hess has suggested some websites where you might find a style of clothing that is comfortable. Another thing I've heard of, and have purchased for my nephew, is clothing for diabetic people such as socks and shirts which don't have tight elastic or tags or labels that are annoying to skin.

If you find some kind of autism-specific clothing, I'm sure everyone here would like to know. I'd like to look at something like that for my nephew.

Google Maps - type in your town/city and hit enter.

Once it's centred on your location. Then delete the location name and enter seamstress or tailor. It'll then drop pins for every local one in your area:

No two autistics are alike. I learned very early that if I didn't like the price or selection in the stores, I should make it myself. in sewing, I sometimes collaborate with someone operating a machine, and sometimes I borrow it.

Fair enough. I was only asking because I want to find someone who can make and customize animal onesies for me if I pay them and give me a discount for it because I have Autism.

I don’t blame you, I would want to know about it to.

Although I have to ask. If there were autism-specific clothing companies who customize clothing for autistic people who request them, would they also make animal onesies for me or other autistic people who want some.
