Our camera club is hosting an online Christmas social on December 21st (simply the third Tuesday of the month, as per our meeting nights, we also meet on the first one), like last year it will be a photography showcase of favourite places to travel by various members

Then comes along this invite tonight on Facebook:

Cirque Nuit and Parks Foundation Calgary invite you to come warm up to winter and join us in celebration of this year’s Winter Solstice at our FREE, all-ages, outdoor FIRE & LIGHTS spectacle at Central Memorial park! Come witness a multitude of amazing fire spinning performances happening the entire evening alongside some incredible fire-breathing art installations by B!G ART & True North Absurdities.

A quick glance at the calendar, the same night as the online Christmas social, both events will be basically at the same time, and which one sounds more exciting? I had submitted some photos for the Christmas social, suppose I could always duck out of the boring event

I just need something to juice up my photography right now, it's pretty much in a downward spiral right now, plus it sounds like a fun event! :) *sigh*

Yes it does :) But do I find a graceful way to bow out of the boring event? I'm sure no one would think otherwise...
You should be honest :) Well, tactfully…
Say an opportunity came up that would really benefit your photography experience, and that you’re sorry you won’t be attending, but maybe leave them some of your recent photographs to look at?

Solstice! Solstice! Solstice!
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I have been presented with a marvelous opportunity to attend Cirque Nuit and so, will have to decline this years event. I hope I have some awesome photographs for you next year."
