I am going to try to go offline and no screen time anywhere for one week. I was wo a puter for a year and my brain changed. I want it back.

Here is a good article that motivated me--

Why Personal Tech Is Depressing

If anyone wants to join me, feel free! But, of course, I can't connect with you :-)

I will post in a week if I succeed and post in a day if I fail. :-)

Sarcasm? Though I know that's not the intent of the Wall Street Journal.

Such articles strike me as being exclusively from a Neurotypical perspective. That any and all forms of social isolation are inherently toxic. A notion which I contend doesn't necessarily apply to those of us on the spectrum of autism, where constant social contact and interaction itself can be inherently stressful to us.

One thing for sure, turning off my computer won't cause my form of autism to just disappear whether I interact with others in person or not. I guarantee that. ;)

Not sure how to answer, I guess yes? Seeing as you have motivation and experience with this. Do what makes you feel better.

I should be trying something similar..."cutting off the supply" so to speak. Let us know how it goes!

It sucked. It was like going back to the 1980's, a place i would not want to revisit. Every time I had to look up a Greek verb, oh....where's the bloody Lexicon! Every time I got depressed, it was Now What? No distractions, no you Tube, No AC.

People are online because it DOES SOMETHING OUR BRAINS LIKE. Poor Socrates said we should write nothing down, but imagine if we had not. Not everyone was a genius like he was. People got things wrong all the time, from memory------DId Nicias say he needed 400 hoplites or 40? I can't remember? We will send , ummm, let's send 100 and wish for the best.........

Happened all the time.................

Since my special interest has been computers for the last 38 years I wouldn't be-able to go more than a few hours in my waking life without using one without having withdrawal and if my Internet is ever offline I go into panic mode, screaming at my ISP. In short I'd be more of a depressive than Marvin in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy if I didn't have access to a computer. Best of luck however and I hope you read this after completing it.

(The ultimate depressive!)

Hehe.... I am back. Lasted a DAY! It was really like going back into a time warp, where I had to fight for rudimentary information. I like Greek and to find words, I had to find my lexicon which did not have as comprehensive a listing as what I can get online!!

THe article is wrong. I felt MORE lonely and desperate. Not less.

I'm imagining druids going through the 'chanting of the names'
Before the written word someone had to remember what things were...
What was that thing called again?
Ask a Druid.

Maybe that was your problem -no druids.
