The Book Depository, Better World Books (I buy books from Better World Books through Biblio though since it always seems to be slightly cheaper than using the official Better World Books site) and Chapters Indigo. If I can't find anything on any of those sites, which is very rare, I use the book search engine BookFinder.

The above, with the exception of Chapters Indigo, are online-only book stores. I've probably only ever stepped into a physical bookstore five or less times in my entire life. I doubt I could find what I want in physical bookstores around here.

I have a preference for rare book editions (when I can find them cheap) since they can be resold for lots of money. And it's just nice to have collectors items IMO. You sometimes can get lucky and get highly collectible editions of books for as little as $5 and go and resell them for hundreds, or even thousands (if you're very lucky), of dollars.
 
I look for any good book store, used or new, in the area where I find myself.
ChaptersIndigo (the big Canadian bookstore chain), local book shops: you name it,
I've been known to frequent it (if it has a store in the south side of Edmonton, of course).
 
My current favorite book store is John Windle Antiquarian Books in San Francisco. It is a small rare book store specializing in William Blake. I don't get to SF much but when I do I could spend hours in this marvelous little store.
 
i miss borders! they had a really great section for stationary and stuff like that. i love collecting pens and stickers and they had a whole section for that kind of thing. i guess now i would say barnes and nobles? i don't actually go very often. we have a neat little hole in the wall used book store in my town though that i quite like. i need to read more!
 
Ohhh...I always went to Borders. I have so many memories there. This could lead me to a rant about how I hate eBooks replacing regular books, but I'll let it slide. I loved the smell whenever I walked inside a Borders; Barnes & Noble just doesn't quite smell the same, but it's pretty much the only bookstore left... :(
 
i like Waterstones there's two in the city center the staff are really helpful i can be in and out within minutes just choose which book on-line then go and collect it. can't touch library books. Reading one would be like wearing still warm second-hand underwear.
 
When I was a teen I used to go into waterstones every week to find books but now I look for the cheapest price, usually that's either amazon, the book depository or abebooks. I also shop alot in the kindle store(amazon again) because I don't have enough space for alot of physical books anymore so if there's not much difference in price I will get it on the kindle
 
i checked out some Ebooks on argos and i was tempted but they are a bit to clinical looking for me and i would miss shaking the tassels on my bookmark. not so keen on downloading music either. do you remember a group called The Christians from Liverpool they played soul music with a political edge. they have a new album out on the 27th august. they only seem to release music during a recession. Here in Edinburgh until a few years ago there was a large bookshop called James Thin which had many different departments and sometimes I would spend ages in it. Sadly it closed down so now I mainly get my books from Amazon or Waterstones online.
 
On-line I like ABE books, as you can find older editions that are cheaper. For a brick and mortar store, I like Type Books in Toronto. A benefit - it is right beside a Japanese paper store.

I miss Borders too! I can't say it was my favorite book store, but There was one in almost every city. You could always depend on a Borders to hang out and brows and they had such a wide selection of books. Then suddenly.... it's gone. Everywhere. How could they do such a thing???
 
I admit that after buying a Kindle, I almost never go into bookstores to buy books anymore. After Tower Records closed I used to go to Border's in Nashville, but then they closed as well. Now I frequent McKay, a used book-and-record shop that has a couple of locations here in Tennessee. It's hard to find good books there sometimes, but their music selection is decent and often quite surprising. I would like to finally pay a visit to Grimey's if I ever have the time and the inclination to battle Nashville traffic.

I went a bit off-topic here...but like I said, Borders was a decent bookshop, even if I never went there for actual books. :cool:
 
I used to visit Borders. Now, I am bordered by the lack of places to buy real books - especially books on American football and baseball.

Borders is literally the only place I could get such books of such 'niche' interests in where I live.
