Because she has problems with emotional regulation that psychologists and therapists have been unable to get eradicate. She gets angry/upset, internalises everything and feels all she has left is to hurt herself as she doesn’t want to hurt others. I’ve tried punchbags, talking therapies etc her psychologist told me it’s very common for asd girls to self harm! She also is terrified of her body changing in any way so is conscious about a healthy body and what she puts in it. She was a little young for it to trigger but she had a massive transition from a mainstream school to a specialist school as they felt they could no longer meet her needs and wanted her moved. She doesn’t cope with change well, it’s mentally exhausting having to see your child in such a anxious state and nothing you do or say seems to helpWhy is a 8 year old self harming?
