The Autism MX Day Camp 2012-2013 Southern California Series for Children with Autism is under way. There will be a Day camp in Lake Elsinore on Oct. 6.
Day Camps are broken into two time slots. 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., 6 to 8 children per time slot.
Volunteer and equipment availability will determine how many day campers AMX can accommodate. As of now, AMX has one 50cc quad and two 50cc dirt bikes with training wheels. Each piece of equipment will have two day campers or riders and two volunteers.
Currently, this allows AMX to have six children per time slot, totaling 12 day campers per camp. If and when more equipment becomes available, AMX will allow more day campers. To maintain the safety of the riders, AMX feels that 6 to 8 children per time slot fits best now.
Helmets are provided. Children must wear long pants, long shoes ? boots, if possible. Parents must bring whatever their child needs, as motocross tracks are not the most comfortable of places, (beach chairs, snacks, iPads, books and so on.) Siblings of the day campers may have the opportunity to ride; however, please keep in mind that the day camps are designed first and foremost for the day campers.
Due to the rising costs of the day camps, AMX asks that each day camper?s family donate $25 to the project. Autism MX needs sponsors to help keep costs down; please see www.AutismMx.org for more sponsorship information.
Volunteers are asked to be at the track at 8:45 a.m. and are encouraged to bring their dirt bikes. As time permits, volunteers may have the opportunity to ride between breaks or after the day camp. Volunteers who do bring their own dirt bikes may have to pay gate fees depending on the location of the track, and the track rules.
