Aspies taste in music?

I love prog rock too, hence my username. I like all the classic 70s bands - Jethro Tull, Genesis, Yes, Pink Floyd, Rush, Camel, Caravan, Renaissance, King Crimson, ELP, etc. I also like a lot of the neoprog or more recent bands like Big Big Train, Marillion, Millenium, The Tangent, Porcupine Tree. I like prog folk a lot, and love to explore bands from many different countries with folk influences. However, I don't like minimalist music, I like music with a lot going on. I need to be stimulated, music is like a big stim for me. I also like folk rock (Fairport Convention, Magna Carta) and metal/prog metal, as well as classic rock (Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden).
Marillion and my mother set me up for a lifetime of being sung at. Bloody Marillion :unamused:

Mine are all rock.. indie rock, metal, 80s, alternative, 90s, acoustic is about my extent. Favorites are Static-X, Marilyn Mason, most 80s rock, Asking Alexandria, I prevail

I also love Enya, actually she was the first artist I seriously got into when I was about 20, and the Moody Blues, Days of Future Passed is probably one of my favourite records of all time. You mentioned nature and native sounds, have you ever listened to steve Roach? He does a lot of that type of stuff. I especially like his Quiet Music series from '86, you should check him out. Also you mentioned Pink Floyd, have you ever listened to any of their records? Or just singles?
Steve Roach I'm not familiar with although if he has ambient nature sounds music it is probably on the station I listen to that plays nothing but the meditative/ambient music.

Pink Floyd singles mainly. But, I have been to several of their concerts and now Brit Floyd. The visual experience is awesome when put to the music.
Sometimes I need to shade my eyes on the stobes, but, I love it. Transiberian Orchestra also.
I saw Tom Petty mentioned.
All of his music.
Being from Florida, it was a real shock to lose him this year.

Where do they come from? Do they have any videos on YouTube?

Im not overly into alternative aside from The Smiths or Pixies, some of the 'higher tier' bands, lol, also My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive, theyre related to alternative I suppose.

They have a full album upload on youtube, Begin its called, its actually THE millennium, also if your going to check them out, I highly recommed United States of America, theyre on there as well.

I never really attributed all his hits to him until after he died and I seen videos on him, I got into him after that, I was a Bowie fan for a couple years before he died though, so Im a real fan, hehe ^_^. I bought Blackstar the day before he died, I remember cause I was listening to it repeadedly The Next Day, sorry for the pun... I was listening to him for "hours"...

Edit: With regards to Pink Floyd you should really listen to their studio albums, its a more immersive experience, and just so you know, Dark Side of the Moon, kinda overrated.. Alot of their other material is far more mind bending. ^_^

Thanks. I will certainly check them out.

For:
Backround Music: Classical, Light Jazz, Ethnic Folk
Active Listening: Progressive/Alternative Rock. Need to hear something new and creative in a song to like it usually.
I find the current Indie twangy stuff quite dreary. :D

I like music that challenges me and I will remember for a long time. This whole indie type stuff they have now is quite a drag, like Sufjan Stevens, Mumford & Sons, Bon Iver, makes me feel physically uncomfortable, not sure if those are twangy though, not sure what that means. :/

I have never come across anyone else who likes Steve Roach but I really like Empetus.
I only found out about him from Gta4, lol. Hes very obscure, its good stuff to listen to when your distressed. I like all of his early work but beyond Dreamtime Return it became kinda repetitive and redundant.

Yes I can disappear into it quite happily. Its funny but I only found out about Foster The People from the SSX game.

I guess you never listen to the radio then? Haha. I wouldnt know about todays pop music unless I watched worst songs of the year videos on youtube.

Yeah not often really I look at a lot of music on youtube - start in one place and end up miles away but often find something I like or have not heard of before.

I never really listened to them much, but they did have one of my favorite album covers
