"What is SETI@home?
SETI@home is a scientific experiment that uses Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). You can participate by running a free program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data."

SETI@home

Seti@home is a computing project where you are supposed to use your computer's idle space (i.e. when it is not working and, from what I know, has its power switched on) for a project that serves, in essence, 'aliens' by radio telescope/transmission data.

Thanks Geordie! I'm a horses butt...I just noticed this is the Computers/Technology Discussion. ICM didn't have to elaborate as I could of just googled it. Sorry ICM.

If there is an ARM port of the BOINC software, I might consider using a Raspberry Pi machine (which I would always leave on) to participate in this.

We needa switch on our computer all the time for SETI?

Hmm... I shall see what can I do with SETI

You don't need to leave your computer on all the time, it just works in the background whenever you have your computer on and it idles (quite often in most cases for usual computer use). Of course, leaving it on 24/7 gives more time for more SETI work, but it's not essential. Mind you, I'd love to have a computer dedicated to just SETI!! :)
