I love monsters. :D There, I said it! Star Wars, Star Trek for sci-fi, reading the old Dragonriders of Pern series by McCaffrey was enjoyable.

It was really cool to get my autism diagnosis, cos I felt like: PLOT TWIST! I was secretly this really cool monster with superpowers all along, like a werewolf. :cool:
 
I am not sure why, but I have never liked fiction very much. I like facts a lot more, particularly if they are about something that I am interested in. Maybe it is because I am a old Aspie or maybe it is because of where I am at on the spectrum. I do know that I can talk up a storm if I am talking about something that I know about, whereas social chitchat, not so much.
 
I love Star Trek but that's because my Dad and I would watch it together every night, and he'd point out all the scientific and mathematical errors in the episodes. It was one of the few times growing up that Dad and I could talk about something intellectual without my getting yelled at. I still watch those shows to this day. When ST comes on, everything is right with the world. Dad and I still enjoy discussing Sci-Fi from the 50's and 60's (dad's generation). He once read every book in the Sci-Fi section of the NY public library over a summer in high school, so he recommends a lot of good stuff to me.

I really don't like much fantasy, but I do love Sci-fi to a certain extent. Star Wars is pretty good, but I prefer Battlestar Galactica (70's), ST:TOS, TNG, and DS9, and some Stargate: SG1.

However, I also love a good Western for the horses, but I'm still picking holes in the scientific plausibility of the gunfights.

Kirk was definitely cuter and had a better frontier-diplomacy personality...He's still my fave. Picard has his good moments, but he's no where near as dynamic as Kirk.
 
I liked Bill Adama over Kirk or Picard.

IMO Adama was far more complex and authentic a personality than was ever portrayed by the two Federation starship captains. As for actors, I think Olmos and Stewart are excellent in their craft. With Shatner coming in a distant last place.

Oh, no argument from me about Shatner's acting compared to Stewart's. The only time I really enjoyed Shatner's acting was in Miss Congeniality, and I'm not sure he was really acting in that movie...

Now Brent Spiner is an AMAZING actor! Loved him on Night Court :-D

I mainly watch films these days, in these genres, and can find a lot of Sci-Fi I like but only a few Fantasy (like Lotr).

The modern trend toward Franchises doesn't interest me much. They mostly seem like TV series on steroids. They can be a ok watch but rarely cover new territory or provoke much thought.
 
I like both fantasy and science fiction-fantasy,I was a huge fan of lord of the rings and had the books,movies,posters and toys,I still wear my sterling silver ring which is the replica from the movie,I also like Star Wars,the avengers and a lot of the other marvel movies but to tell you the truth I'm a bit burnt out with Hollywood since they are just spewing out reboot after reboot and it's made me lose interest I was also a huge x-men fan and went to see every movie up to days of future past but it must be a sign that I'm burnt out since I haven't even gone and seen x-men apocalypse.

Science fiction contains elements that could almost work, given our present understanding of science & technology.

Science fantasy takes fantasy concepts and gives them a scienc-y sounding rationale without working out a plausible scientific/technological basis for them.
 
I grew up on star wars (though disappointed in the current trilogy) Love LOTR, Hobbit, GOT, Stranger things,

I find many of the shows disappointing started watching the OA and was very interested but went real south real fast.
 
I grew up on watching the late night showings of the War of the World TV seires (which was kind of a sequel to the 1953 movie).

That and Star Trek TNG starring Sir Patrick Stewart, "Make it so!".
