Just wondering if anyone here has been diagnosed with both ASD and a psychotic disorder?
I have Schizoaffective Disorder - Bipolar Type. It's pretty much under control at the moment and I'm asymptomatic, but when I do get psychosis, I can get things like delusions, ideas of reference, thought broadcasting and auditory hallucinations. I'm pretty fortunate though that I've really only experienced positive symptoms. I don't think I've experienced negative symptoms.
It took me a bit to get an ASD dx because I was given the Schizoaffective dx first, and some of the symptoms of Schizoaffective can seem like ASD, like the negative symptoms - i.e. social withdrawal, poor social skills, etc. I used to dispute the idea that my social issues were coming from Schizoaffective, because I have had social issues from early childhood and also have had things like obsessional interests and sensory issues which are not part of Schizoaffective and also stemmed from early childhood.
A few days back I got the really really official sign-off from my psychiatrist that I have Asperger's, I guess because I've stabilised but the ASD issues have remained.
