Answer a QUESTION with a QUESTION

Isn't it confusing that the plural of "squid" can be either "squids" or "squid," but the plural of "finger" has to be "fingers," and only "fingers"?
 
How much more confusing would it be if the plurals were 'squings' and 'fidwards'?
 
“Verbal fibre” isn’t in my Dewey Decimal reference books, but doesn’t verbal fibre have to be taken aurally?
