Andrew Denton "Interview"

I listened to a book on tape CD of a woman with this condition.
The idea that a person could retain this much information was
intriguing.

The effect, however, was truly stultifying.
She remembered everything, but it didn't give her added insights
into anything.

It was a just a mass of recalled detail.

Fascinating!

As well as HSAM, Rebecca has autism, (no surprises) GAD, OCD and panic attacks. She says that when she remembers an incident, she also relives it as she was at that time. She recounted reliving bullying she received as a seven year old, and how, because of the HSAM and OCD, it was very hard to reach closure. She also experiences the pain of injury when she remembers it, and explained that if she grazes herself now as an adult, it barely registers, but when she remembers grazing herself as a 3 year old she feels it with a three year old's skin.

Despite having a prodigous memory she had trouble learning at school , as due to OCD, she could not learn "to the curriculum" and reading a piece of text would trigger different memories with each word which she would relive.

She says she used to see it as a curse, but now realises she has as many happy memories as sad ones. She recounted a particularly touching story when a small girl comforted her during a meltdown.

She does autism advocacy and motivational talks.

Good luck to you Beck, if you are reading this.

As always, Denton was the consummate interviewer, showing warmth, wit, intelligence, and thorough research. I am a Denton fan.:)

I would like to view the video, however, it isn't loading for me. I thought perhaps, it could be that I am in the US, but, it wouldn't work when I changed my VPN to UK, nor other countries. I am able to click on the 'play video arrow', and it begins to load, but, it times out. Perhaps you know of something I could try. Thank you. : )

Cool. I have a penchant for remembering different events throughout my life and birthdays but I can't remember it all. Good for this person.

My long-term memory is quite vivid and detailed, and I am able to remember many experiences from 2 years of age, onward, but, I don't have total recall of everything that has occurred in my lifetime, nor, can I say that I have experienced physical pain as the result of a memory. I have, however, experienced physical sensations as the result of other cognitive experiences, such as listening to certain types of music, and witnessing other's physical experiences, but, of course, this has nothing to do with memory. My folks have commented, on several occasion, that I have remembered details of various places we had traveled to, when I was 2 and 3 years old.

I have heard other interviews and articles on people with this condition. It typically starts with a very traumatic experience - one lady witnessed her father kill her mother. The condition can go away with therapy.

It seems like they are living in a constant state of hyper-vigilant stress. As mentioned in other comments, it does sound like a horrific way to live.

It seems it can only be viewed if you are you are connected to an Australian internet server, which is a darn shame.
Why does the ad play but not the video itself?
Please ensure that you are connecting via an Australian internet connection and that you do not have any VPN or Proxy Services running. If other live streams and video content plays apart from one or more specific pieces of content, please get in touch with the details of the issue and our support team will look into this further.
If the issue occurs on all content and you are connecting from within Australia, please try connecting to a different network to check if this issue is specific to your connection. If this is the case, please let us know and our trusty support team will work with you and your internet service provider to troubleshoot further.

:(

Thank you, pax, for looking into it, and letting me know. : )I will do some research, and perhaps I will find a related video, available to US viewers. If I do, I will post it here, if you would like me to. : ) Thank you, again!

I’m pleased someone can remember sensations as if they’re happening.

It’s generally thought that mums don’t remember the sensation and experience of childbirth,
Should they do so, they wouldn’t go through it again.

I’ve had heated discussions over this subject with several different people (including a midwife.)

I say it’s possible. Many disagree.
