Early in the 20th century, it was the Multnomah County Poor Farm, where debtors and the poorest of the poor were forced to live and work. Whole families were incarcerated onto the poor farm.

But now it's been remodeled into a quirky, hippie style hotel spa resort, with a vineyard, winery, brewery, concert venue, and golf course.

They grow their own grapes for wine, and their own hops for beer.

Steinway Tunnel, which carries trains between Manhattan and Queens in New York City. Planning for it began in 1882, but it wasn't until 1915 that permanent use happened. By that time, William Steinway, a son of the piano company founder and the one who had sponsored much of the initial funding, was dead for almost twenty years.
