I think this funny intersection is located in Bakersfield.
There really is a place called Inyo Butte, and it's gorgeous. The Inyo Mountains are a little north of Death Valley, in the southeastern Sequoia range.
Jefferson, State of
A region comprising much of Northern California, and Southern Oregon. Groups in this region have been trying to create their own state since at least the early 1940s.
The Oregon/California counties that make up the proposed State of Jefferson are traditionally more conservative than the rest of their respective states. But this is not always the case. In many respects, you can find some of the wildest, most legendary hippies in the proposed State of Jefferson.
People of the proposed 51st state of Jefferson are quite often living more rural than the rest of the population, with a greater amount of independence from government or metropolitan society.
