A Weird Situation That Still Bugs Me

Ok so this happened a few years ago in my English class. We had to write a short piece of writing, but every few minutes the teacher changed the genre we were writing in. I was fine with this, I'm pretty good at writing, but then something kind of strange happened.
We got the romance genre and I described a blonde female teenager, that's all that I really remember and all that's really important. Then we had to read out our pieces, which I was fine with. When I got to describing the blonde girl, the teacher said, "Describing your perfect woman, are you?" And it was a kind of stupid joke, but I was fine with it and I replied, "Actually I prefer dark hair." Because it's true and everyone started laughing like it was the best joke ever. I still have no idea why what I said was so funny, and that's always kind of bugged me.
Anyone have any ideas?

I'm guessing it was an uncomfortable topic in general (romance genre) and the other students not only thought your comment was clever but also needed a release of some sort. (the laughter) In my experience, when I respond to something with my truth, people think it's really funny. I just kind of sit there in awe that it's so easy to make people laugh. I think most people don't expect a literal response.

I can relate. All through elementary school I was voted the funniest kid in the class. I never really tried to be funny but I think that the humour of many folks with an NT brain is different. They are very easy to amuse. I doubt they were making fun of you in any way. They probably just thought your reply was funny or witty. Sort of a quick humourous response.

thanks for the responses, I know that they weren't making fun of me, I just wanted to know what I said that was funny.

She was joking with you, which to my way of thinking is a bit suspect anyway and you gave her a literal answer, which got everyone laughing!

I would have said exactly the same thing, but for the opposite sex!

That sounds about right.

I can't, for propriety's sake, describe what a workmate of mine said he wanted to do to a picture of his left foot. But it caught me off guard, and I asked why would he need a picture, when his left foot was right there at the end of his leg. The room was silent for one second, and then there was uncontrollable laughter from everyone.

They thought I was a genius, I was mystified...but I'll never turn down plaudits, deserved or not.

...I just wanted to know what I said that was funny.

As to why what we said was funny, or why anything is funny...that's a big topic. And it is most certainly not an ASD/NT thing only. I hate to say this, but an episode of The Big Bang Theory had Sheldon Cooper using science to write jokes. The episode was mildly humorous, his jokes weren't.

Maybe it was the way you said it?

I also don't always get why some people think some of the stuff I say is funny when other times it sinks like gangsters wearing cement shoes. I don't really care too much though, I mainly do it to make myself laugh, I do get a kick out of it when others laugh too and then I end up laughing more.

My autism totally missed this one. I am in the dark here!

I can only think they were all into the description and then the teacher said that to be funny and then you flat out stated you like dark hair. I bet it was the whole dynamics and your delivery all together.

People like when their brains are fooled and they were probably imagining this beautiful blonde and then BOOM! No, I like dark hair.......

I guess it might be funny, like the element of surprise kind of funny.
