A special interest in the apocalypse

You might wonder why? It's my opinion that Aspies will thrive in a world turned upside down because our special interests will enable us to do so. Whereas a lot of neurotypicals are vapid and quit learning after it is no longer really necessary, learning to us is a fascination - it's part of who we are. A large part of me wishes for an apocalypse of sorts - it would make things like pointless socialization collapse overnight. Call me morbid, but I am fascinated with the concept of the decay of society.
 
A group with a few Aspies could be better off but I'd rather take my chances joining the zombies then be in an "All Aspie" post apocalyptic band.

An all aspie post-apocalyptic survival group would thrive though, you can't argue that. Being a zombie, on one level, would be kinda fun. :D
 
Oh, count me in on that interest, but I'm probably a bit more fatalistic in that I don't mind society going to hell in a handbasket and no one coming out alive. That said, I enjoy post-apocalyptic imagery and such quite a bit (even if it involves people).

Perhaps, even if I would be a bit less fatalistic in it, I suppose an apocalypse would at least reset everything for a fair amount of people, my included. The way society is geared with money, arbitrary laws, traditions and a total lack of learning from the school of hard knocks doesn't sit well with me, nor has it ever
 
What worries me a bit, speaking about that proverbial resetbutton. I read a few articles the other day how we've depleted so many natural resources now, we're past a point of no return, meaning that IF we would go back to square one for whatever reason, we wouldn't even have enough resources to reach the technological age we've achieved now...
 
I do believe we has passed a certain point but mother nature has a way. Certainly, if the reset button were pressed, we would see an entirely new and different earthscape
 
Oh gosh, I fantasize about the apocalypse, too! I recently came to the conclusion that it's because I am such a failure in regards to "real-world" stuff that a worldwide disaster would level the playing field and I could have a chance. Also, I don't have any pesky connections to other humans, so I think I'd do okay.
 
Funny how I seem to have all these skills that don't appear to have any value in the money world. I've done a lot of camping in my life, even in winter. I can identify most edible and medicinal plants in the areas I've lived in, I have the orienteering skills and such, I can do all those things if need be. Guess I'm all set if there is an apocalypse.
 
My wife's family always told her she's lucky because in an apocalypse I'm the go to guy.
 
It is indeed an interesting notion, one that I find myself thinking about a lot as well. I find the concept of a global disaster to be frighteningly beautiful but also necessary in some regards.

Though I may not know a lot about survival, I find that my will often times pairs well with my quick thinking capabilities in order to get me out of tough situations. So many less people in the world to fight over trivial things. I say go for it. I even find myself sometimes going so far as to plan world domination lol. But I'm far too disconnected with it all as humans will inevitably destroy themselves anyway
 
I really love post-apocalyptic literature, movies or TV series like the BBC series Survivors. I wouldn't like to to actually happen though. I don't believe the 'meek will inherit the Earth theory', will hold true, it'll be more like survival of the fittest, and I'm definitely not one of the fittest.

Meek would imply no skills and weak. We certainly aren't meek.

I agree. What I meant was, I'm not a very domineering or aggressive person, and I'd be at a disadvantage in that kind of society where the fittest, or the most dominant and agressive survive.

I would hope that, in an apocalypse, the brotherhood and sisterhood of autistic people would prevail.
 
There was a show on for a while called "50 Years After People" that showed what would happen to "civilization" if you removed people and left everything else. There was a special feature on an abandoned city in China--I've forgotten its name--and some truly hair-raising examples of what would be so in Florida. Apparently Burmese pythons once treated as 'pets' become the apex predator, since they can eat alligators. Watching monkeys colonize apartments was surreal.

Yeah... while the others are busy killing themselves over a piece of bread or a can of soup, we would be busy thinking up new ways to produce bread or to grow vegetables to make the soup :)

Indeed. Finally, all my years of playing minecraft will pay off!! But on a serious note, I think that is a strategical advantage. I watch naked and afraid a lot but the people never do anything self sustaining or bring tools that help with that. Even the art of survival seems to be "what can you do to hold you over until you're rescued". I'd focus more on what if I may not get rescued immediately and what can I do to make life easier aroun me?
