  • So, I tried making a pinwheel (it wasn't great I needed the assistance of another and Google to get it done), and when I put it over a candle in the bathroom (don't ask), it started turning.
So, I saw a photo from one of my relatives of a bouquet of white roses, but after their kid put it into their blue paint water, the roses turned blue. Remarkable.

This works with celery stalks as well. Put blue food coloring in water and the plants sucks it up (technically it's capillary action) into the leaves, giving the leaves a blue color.

Florists do this with some white flowered plants (daisies) to produce novel colors for fancy arrangements.
Did you know that balloons don't pop over fire when it's filled with water? I think it's because the water absorbs the heat.

That makes sense. I wonder if it is possible to use more heat than the water can absorb?

Before humans learned how to work metals stews and soups were cooked in leather vessels. As long as you cooked over hot coals and didn't expose it to fierce flames it was fine.
Well, I had some copper wire lying around, and decided to put a little magnet through it. Imagine my surprise when it went around in circles.

Must be impurities in the copper. There's a few magnetic metals but copper is not one of them.

It's the Eddy Current Phenomenon. Magnets aren't attracted to copper as it doesn't have ferrous particles, but copper does influence the magnetic field. If you drop a magnet through a copper pipe it will actually slow down as it passes through too :-)
Well, a friend showed me trick they used to win the science fair when they were younger. They put baking soda in a balloon and filled a soda bottle with vinegar. The carbon dioxide made the balloon inflate.

We used to do the same with pill bottles...just to see the pressure build up and pop the cap upwards...lol
Well, the servers went down in my area, so my project data needs redoing, but I'll just say this knowledge tidbit: cheetahs chirp like birds.

In the north of Australia little house geckos chirp like birds too. They're in everyone's houses, you can't keep them out.

I recently played a game called Endling: Extinction is Forever. Other than being a very sad game, I found it pretty hard to believe that foxes could be on the edge of extinction (those creatures could survive anywhere).

They kill a multitude of small mammals that evolved in a land with no mammalian predators and therefore have no natural defensive instincts. They're not quite as devastating as cats but they come close. In Australia some people work as professional hunters and work under contract for farmers, they shoot cats, foxes and rabbits.

Foxes are amazing with very sensitive cat-like hearing. I was in Yellowstone NP during winter and watch a fox home in on an area in the snow, then leap high to dive vertically at the spot, to come up with a mouse or vole. What an amazing display of hunting! A Cat-like Canine
Well, after a few days of grieving, I'm thinking about doing some more experiments, though only with the others making sure I take it easy.
It's sad when a species disappears. The Kaui O'o's final cry brings a tear to my eyes.

I watched the video of it a few days ago. It is very sad, it sounded so lovely
I'd like to thank everyone for their support during this time. It's nice knowing there are so many of you that care, and I hope you all cherish your loved ones everyday.
I left my Gatorade in the freezer and forgot about it, but when I remembered and took it out, I dropped and it turned into a slushie. That was interesting.
So, I thought about making a bottle rocket, but one look at the people who live me vetoed the idea. I settled on using laser pen to mess with water and then oil. It turns out the light bends in oil.
So, dropping baking soda in the three layer fluid made it look like a small lava lamp. Nice; messy but nice.
So, with the vinegar I had, I mixed it with some cooking oil and some left over red dye, and now I have three layers of fluid in my glass. Science is so cool!
