    Many years ago, I found this video demonstrating VHS generation loss. Looking at it now, it's like "Everywhere at the End of Time", but much more condensed and less pretentious.

    Something I drew recently. It was part of an art prompt to draw "overly cute" versions of your characters, so I drew mine at a younger age. Boop.

    I watched a video recently that used a site called wiby.org to explore old, abandoned webpages. Apparently it was designed to curate pages that don't use javascripts, which over 90% of the modern internet uses, plus find pages that are hidden in modern search engines due to SEO. Thought I'd share it here for anyone to check out.

    I found an interesting article about autism from an unlikely source: the Summer 2024 issue of 2600: The Hacker's Quarterly. I wonder if I should scan it and submit it to the resources (I'm not sure if there's an online version of the article or not).

    I've also got Privacy Badger running. I'll have to try Dark Reader: there are so many sites where light mode makes me feel like I'm staring at a lightbulb.

    Then you'll love Dark Reader.

    My eyes just can't deal with white backgrounds and black text...and Dark Reader makes it all various shades of attractive grey. Just be sure to go into the settings and play with brightness and contrast percentages until it pleases you.

    While I haven't been a fan of his since before his first book, I did take one lesson away from Maddox's site: dark backgrounds and light-colored text are so much better on the eyes.

    I'm going to be frank: a couple days ago, I found out that a user on another forum I'm on took his own life. I didn't know him well, but he seemed like a really chill guy. I have had a lot of conflicted emotions since then.

    I've had this experience, too, and it can really be difficult. We connect for real over the internet even if only for a few moments and a loss is still sad and complicated.

    Someone at this Linux User Group meetup I've been going to demonstrated GrapheneOS by having his phone screen copied to his desktop. I decided to try doing that for future reference.

    So my Playstation 3 is borked. The southbridge on the motherboard is unrepairable. I want to deactivate it, but it has a tendency to freeze up. Does anyone know how to do it remotely without deactivating every device on my PSN account? Sony's support is a joke.

    Sadly, it's out of date. Looks like I'll have to do it the painful way: deactivate everything, then reactivate my PS4. I can still turn on the PS3, but I don't want to risk having it freeze up in the process of deactivating it. I already had to get a whole new hard drive for the thing, and I'm not going to have my $70-plus SSD get toasted by a bad motherboard.

    I was never planning on buying a new console anyway, but I'll make sure never to buy a new one from Sony ever again: their service is awful. There's no email address for their support department (not in the US anyway), and I couldn't find chat support from a human (only some crappy AI they use).

    I know calling would be a waste of time even if I could find a phone number, as big corporations like them have you go through a whole phone tree system just to find the one department you want to speak to.

    Cripes, why is it not possible to deactivate individual devices via PC through your own PSN account? What if said device got stolen? It's dumb.

    I have been thru that in Minnapolis. It goes from winter right to summer, no spring. Wisconsin is so beautiful, you are so lucky to live there.

    Last time I encountered such an extreme change was the one time I was in Colorado over 20 years ago. Went from 60-70 the day we got there to -5 two days later.

    I'm just gonna throw this out there: I am searching for a female singer to help finish a song I'm working on. I had someone in mind, but she had to back out, and I don't know anyone else. Sadly, I can't offer much other than a lossless FLAC of the song when it's done, but if anyone is interested I can send a link to a ZIP file with what I have so far plus a doc of the lyrics.

    Modifying the shell session in Linux has been one of the neatest things I've learned about in that book so far, but don't ask me to remember exactly how to do it. It basically involves typing a nearly incomprehensible and somewhat long line of code, but it can make it so the cursor's in a different position, list date and time, change the color of the prompt or code line, and other stuff.

    It took me a while, but I got Ubuntu Studio installed. I was having issues with Universal USB Installer, so I switched to Rufus and got everything working.

    So I'm diving into the world of Linux. I'm leaning the most into Ubuntu Studio for my distro of choice as I do a lot creatively. However, I'm also planning on going back to school for IT. Any recommendations for programs or even a different distro that would fit my needs? I'm still pretty new to all this.

    There are two mainstream distributions that most of the others are derived from, these are Ubuntu and Fedora. I recommend sticking with either of those as they have the most support. If you want more advice it might be better to start a proper thread, the blogs have an 80 word limit which restricts responses.

    I've done my share of distro-hopping in the last year. Yet I've always gravitated back to Linux Mint. Especially version 21.0 that has long term support for the next five years.
