  • So I'm diving into the world of Linux. I'm leaning the most into Ubuntu Studio for my distro of choice as I do a lot creatively. However, I'm also planning on going back to school for IT. Any recommendations for programs or even a different distro that would fit my needs? I'm still pretty new to all this.

There are two mainstream distributions that most of the others are derived from, these are Ubuntu and Fedora. I recommend sticking with either of those as they have the most support. If you want more advice it might be better to start a proper thread, the blogs have an 80 word limit which restricts responses.

    Ubuntu is fine for IT.

I've done my share of distro-hopping in the last year. Yet I've always gravitated back to Linux Mint. Especially version 21.0 that has long term support for the next five years.

Everything seems to be subscription based these days. I wonder if this new fangled electronic restrictions means that ECU remapping on modern Mercs is a no go.

Heard of this sort of thing awhile ago. BMW decided they want you to pay a subscription fee for seat heating. Just think about that for a second. What I really want to see is stories of people cracking these restrictions.

@Misery If it has a paywall, someone will crack it. Yo Ho Ho!
I'm thinking of diving into Linux finally. I'm looking for a decent laptop for it, since I'd like to go further into music production and I'd like to be portable to do so. Anyone have any suggestions on a decent Linux-capable laptop for that purpose without breaking my bank account too hard? I've done some research on the subject already, and it seems like all the best ones are pretty up there.

You don't really need anything crazy for music production IMO unless you're planning on doing some hardcore DSP. What DAW are you planning on using?

Also I should mention that Linux will basically run on any old potato you have laying around, too.

Linux doesn't use as many resources as Windows and it uses Ram much more efficiently. So you get longer life out of older machines. It's different to Windows and takes a little getting used to but that would be the same if you decided to go with Apple too.
Am I the only one who took to the forum change pretty quick? To me, it really isn't that different: all the functions I used before are still there. Then again, it always was fairly easy for me to acquaint myself with new tech, even if it is a small site design change.

For me, it comes down to the design of the new layout. It really does not look good on PC. But the mobile version is a huge improvement from before. I'm taking the change on mobile a lot better actually.
Finally, after months of setbacks, I was able to acquire an acoustic guitar. I haven't played one in a while, so calluses need to reform.

Don't even get me started on those parents. Apparently, the girl was fairly high functioning until the end of high school, then they just gave up completely.

People need licenses to drive cars - but not to have babies... and it shows regularly... :(
If you wouldn't mind, I would like to musically rework and remix Carissa's Light, send you the files and if you like it, record your vocals on it. I can hear the emotions in it. My nephew tragically took his own life, so I can hear and feel what you are singing. What is the BPM for the song?
You will get full credit for any work that you produce for the song. Once the song is finished and I mix it, I will determine if we can sell it. If it is to be sold, you will get half of what is made from it.

I wrote the song from the perspective of being Autistic...."ok, I didn't understand...silly me." Stuck in a world, isolated and surrounded by people and yet very alone.
Here's a link to download 'Silly Me'. If you would record the vocals dry, and Bounce them out in lossless WAV file format and post them to a Dropbox account where I can download them directly, that would be great! I am looking forward to hearing how this pans out! https://www.dropbox.com/s/csv1ejux614xxxd/Silly%20MeV6.mp3?dl=0
We had thundersnow tonight. Never had that experience before.

We had thundersnow the 6th of December. That was strange. More common here (northwest lower Michigan) near the end of winter, like in mid March.
